Just received my peacoat in India, and while i cant vouch for the warmth yet as the weather is hot as hell, but i can see how thick the wool is and beautifully made the coat is. Going by what the others have said, it should be very warm and cozy. I can say it fits well, and looks so expensive! I wore it over both casual clothing and my suit, and i look great! Regarding sizing, i was recommended 38 by Denise, but i could have gone for 36 for a slim fit. The 38 works for me since i intend to wear it over my suit jacket, and then the fit is perfect. I guess its all about knowing your needs. I found the shoulder width on the garment longer than what was mentioned in the spec sheet. Size 38 was mentioned as 18.25", but it actually measure close to 19". Like i said, over a suit jacket it fits perfect and i am very happy with it. For reference, my stats are - shoulders 18", chest 39", weight 72 kg, height 5', 8". All in all, wonderful investment.
I'm 5'7 with a stocky athletic build. This peacoat in size 34R fits me like a tailored suit and looks fantastic to boot. My chest is 40 inches and my shoulders are 18 inches. It fits snugly at the shoulders, so if you're similar to my dimensions, don't expect to be wearing this over a suit comfortably.
However, despite my overall enjoyment of the product, I would like to mention that the buttons came loose right out of the package, which seems to be a common consensus among other reviews. I do hope Schott does something about it as I had to re-sew all of my buttons right out of the packaging for fear that they drop off (there are no replacement buttons included). None of the button's thread was secured and it came loose with a single tug. Not what I expect from Schott's attention to detail.
Also, as an international customer, it would be great if Schott could include an option for cheaper international shipping. I wouldn't mind waiting a few weeks if it meant that I didn't have to pay $130usd++ for 3 day shipping. Overall a great product. Looks great in dark oxford grey.
I’m 5’ 10” and 165 pounds of Dad bod and a size 38 fit perfectly with room for layering! This coat is built for a lifetime. I’ve been eyeing it for years and finally pulled the trigger and wish I did it sooner. 10 times the cost of my Lands End pea coat!
I've always wanted a pea coat, ever since I was a kid and saw my uncle's (former WWII Navy veteran) which was handed down to his much younger "kid" sister, my mom. This coat is constructed with thick/heavy (two layers?) wool, and with a nice, quilted lining. It is not a light coat; it is not a flimsy coat; this is a serious coat which should last a lifetime. And yes, it is quite warm and comfy and it makes a statement when you wear it.
I'm 5'10", and 152 lbs. The size 38 with 32" regular length fits me just right. The sleeve length, for me, was spot on as well.
I owned my first Schott USA 740 Naval Pea Coat for twelve years. It traveled across 3 continents with me, multiple times. It was, simply put, the perfect coat. I simply got a bit too pudgy for it, so I bought my second and put my first in the closet as a contingency. My second is now in it's fifth year, and, while I've had to have the pockets resewn, as they do tear out after years of heavy use (I live in Chicago, Coat season here is five months of the year.), and one minor seam resewed, it's one of the most reliable, comfortable, warm, and overall excellent coats that I have ever owned. Schott's coats may be a bit more costly than the cheap crap you get at Target or Wal-Mart, but you get so much quality for your money that it's a foregone conclusion: But this jacket. It will serve you faithfully, warmly, for a lot of years. Best coat I've ever owned, hands down.
I couldn't be more happy. Beautiful through and through.
Love this jacket. Great winter staple. Runs at least one size bigger than what you usually buy so be sure to size down. Unlike most so-called winter coats this one will actually keep you warm as it’s made of thick, thick Melton wool with a polyester padded lining. Save it for the chill days as it’s big and heavy and perfect for wearing with chunky boots.
Beautiful coat. Great fit. Fast delivery!
I had the Lands End one prior to this one. That was decent, but it wore out quickly. I could tell just from unboxing that this one is superior in every way. And while not "cheap," it's very affordable, especially when you compare it to some of the other pea coats out there.
Ordered by phone and then the web site. I ordered a size 40 regular even though I am a 42 regular. The fit is perfect. I weigh 200 pounds and stand about 5 feet 10 inches.
This is a classic coat that is well made and stylish. If you have seen the movie "Three Days of the Condor" you will remember Robert Redford wearing a similar coat.
