    Leather Type, Fit and Construction:

We consider the Model 118 as a close cousin to our popular Model 618 with just a few differences. Perfecto® Model 118 leather jackets for men are made with U. S. sourced, chrome-tanned, drum dyed, heavyweight naked leather. This hide has a softer "hand" when compared to our steerhide and a matte finish. It is chrome tanned and processed to provide many years of use without the need for treatments or conditioners. Right out of the box this jacket will feel like it was custom made for you. This Perfecto® model 118 motorcycle jacket was designed and built for the long haul, the short ride, and everything in between. Not recommended for those who are looking to just blend in with the crowd.

Schott NYC uses heavyweight naked cowhide to help your leather jacket become your "second skin". Motorcycle jackets need to be as tough as the people wearing them. For wind protection and added warmth the 118 features an attached belt, zippered sleeve cuffs and a durable insulated nylon quilted lining sewn into the body of the jacket. Our bi-swing back panels and under arm footballs ensures that this jacket moves with you eliminating that restrictive feel often found with other leather motorcycle jackets. Nickel plated brass hardware complete this timeless American made classic that is built to last a lifetime.

As with all Perfecto® leather jackets, Schott only uses the best, highest quality leather available. In the same tradition started in the late 1920’s, highly skilled workers hand-cut each panel for the 118. In keeping with their original custom style, Schott designed this jacket model with added versatility. Available in both regular and long sizes we often suggest this model for our taller customers. Long sizes add 2 inches to the body length and 1 inch to the sleeves.
Schott sells this leather jacket model true to size, if you wear a 42 suit jacket simply order a size 42 and you will even have room for a sweatshirt underneath for those colder days. With that said it has occurred a few times that some of those young whippersnappers are able to downsize to achieve that tight, t-shirt only, bad boy look. Of course this is just our best recommendation, as always we suggest you carefully check our sizing diagrams and measurements to determine best fit.

The Schott Perfecto® Model #118 is still proudly made in the U.S.A. Our customers know that the quality and construction of our jackets are unparalleled. From the heavyweight thread we use to the strong American hands that do the crafting. We build our leather motorcycle jackets to the same indestructible standards as the old style leather medicine balls. One-hundred plus years of being the best is your assurance that Schott Brothers stands behind every jacket we make.

    History:

The three pocket design of the Schott Perfecto® Model 118 dates back to the late 1940's. In those days this leather motorcycle jacket was referred to as just “Perfecto®” or “Beck model 999” (manufactured by Schott). The small coin flap pocket started out as a custom option offered in the early 50's. By 1955 this coin pocket became a standard feature of this biker-style jacket known as “the Perfecto® One Star".

Considered to be the best motorcycle jacket it caught the mainstream public's attention after Marlon Brando epitomized the coolest of cool, wearing his Perfecto® in that iconic classic film “The Wild One”. Originally referred to as "the One Star", it was officially banned from schools across the US for an entire year in the mid 50’s. Some believe this action served to make the Schott Perfecto® even more desirable to America’s young renegades with their “Wild One” tendencies. School Boards wanted to burn it and youthful rebels saved every penny to buy one. At the time, this jacket retailed for close to $50 which amounted to roughly 100 hours of work if you were a gas station attendant making fifty cents an hour!

The customized asymmetrical leather motorcycle jacket worn by Brando became the must-have anti-establishment symbol for 1950’s youth. The orders skyrocketed for this leather jacket causing Irving Schott and his son Mel to increase their workforce and expand the Schott factory. By the mid 1960’s the Perfecto® men’s jackets had also caught on with the emerging rock n roll movement. Once again, due to increasing sales, Schott had grown out of their current factory on King Street in Perth Amboy, NJ. A few new factories later and still in New Jersey, Schott proudly continues this iconic American classic motorcycle jacket for the wild side in all of us. There is still a Schott family member in the factory every day to make sure Irving would still be proud to put his name in these jackets.

About this leather: Our naked cowhide leather is a premium top grain cowhide that combines comfort and durability. The leather boasts a naturally tight open pore structure that ensures a softer touch and superior comfort. Its weight and warmth are on par with deluxe heavy steerhide. The full aniline, drum dyed process preserves the leather’s texture, enhancing its natural grain with a subtle, semi-matte finish. It is then vacuum dried (instead of toggle dried) that leads to a slightly stiffer result as the fibers are not stretched and softened. The leather is designed to age gracefully and expand its characteristics over time.

    MY 118

Published: Sat, 5/18/2024 by Lambert Doan

I ordered my 118 jacket on the website on a weekend. Monday I got an email that it was on it's way. It came Wednesday afternoon. Unfortunately I ordered a size too small. I went on the website and followed the instructions for an exchange and sent the jacket in on the next day a Thursday. I got an email Monday afternoon that my new jacket was on the way.. It arrived Wednesday. This one fit perfectly and it is amazing. The leather looks fantastic and the craftsmanship is perfect. I'll be wearing this jacket on many motorcycle rides for years to come. Thanks Schott for a great jacket and fantastic service.

I TAKIN’ THIS JACKET WITH ME TO THE AFTERLIFE!

    Published: Sat, 5/4/2024 by s

I suspect that most people read these reviews for sizing info/experiences, for the most part. The question of quality and value for money spent is really a non-question when it comes to Schott so I don't feel the need to address that. Purchasing clothing online can be dicey in regard to sizing and I for one, spent a lot of time reading these reviews looking for greater insight before I clicked the ‘Place Order’ button. Hopefully my 2 cents can help someone out. I am 55, 6’ 1” tall. Average build tending toward the slim side with a slightly long
torso and a 42 inch chest/36 inch waist, 200 lbs.
The 42 regular 118 is a perfect fit in that when I sit on the bike, the jacket does not bunch up in the front nor does it ride up too high in the back. The sleeve length is right on, when reaching for the handlebars.
I considered buying the 42 long because of my longish torso but I am glad I didn't. Keep in mind that the Perfectos are riding jackets and meant to fall higher on the waist than a standard jacket. Ok, and I gotta say it, the quality is amazing! HaHa.
    Stay safe fellow riders.

    BEAUTIFUL!

Published: Wed, 1/24/2024 by Woodson Erich Dryden

This jacket is awesome; there really isn't much else to say that others have not. I'm 5'11, with a 42-43 inch chest. I first went with a 42, and it fit near perfect. But I always wear an armored shirt underneath any jackets with no armor, and when I put that on, it was too cramped, particularly in the shoulders (I have wide shoulders). So I went up to a 44, and although it's a bit boxy, it works much better with the armored shirt. And the waist belt cinches things up nicely around the waist.

The details, quality, and smell of the jacket are amazing.

    A PERFECTO DAY

Published: Tue, 1/23/2024 by Robert J Hauck

Let me begin by stating that I initially had my eye on the 618 Horsehide jacket. Going by the fit estimator, I would have required a size 48 regular. I love the classic fit of this jacket but after much research, I concluded that the 118 size 46 regular, with its more contemporary fit, would be a safer bet. I made the plunge last Tuesday, and probably couldn't have picked a worse week to purchase it! Most of North America was experiencing awful wintry weather, ranging from frigid temps, mountains of snow and freezing rain. Here on the west coast of Canada was no exception, and we got 40 cm of snow followed by freezing rain. After much hand wringing, the jacket finally arrived today, some 5 days late. When the FedEx person handed me the package, my heart sank! The box was seriously damaged, and I immediately thought, "Great, now I don't even have the intact, original packaging to return the jacket. If I sound like a 'glass half empty' kinda guy, let me explain. My experience with online jacket purchases has been nothing short of abysmal. I'm 60 years old, 6'2", 250lbs, with a 46" chest and broad shoulders. I have always had a fairly athletic physique, but have noticed a bit more abdominal girth as of late(I'm hoping to lose this by working out more). .I do have longer legs with an average-sized torso. More than half my online purchases have resulted in deep disappointment and I usually end up having to return the jackets due to poor fit...I was already preparing myself for further disappointment with the 118. When I opened the box, I found the jacket in perfect condition. I immediately knew this was a quality piece...the smell of the leather, the heft and stiffness of the jacket and the quality of the leather were evident. This was no pebbly-grained knock-off from Pakistan! As I put one arm and then the other through the sleeves, I felt right off that it was going to fit. The shoulders had just the right amount of room, the arm length was perfect with the cuffs sitting just below my wrists, and the body of the jacket had just enough space to allow me to wear the jacket over a light hoody. The back length was a tad on the short side, sitting just at the top of my beltline, but I don't mind this because I actually prefer the length on the shorter side. I probably could've gotten away with a long size, but I'm quite happy with it as is. My only complaint is that the back of the jacket does tend to flare out a bit at the bottom, but I'm hoping that when it gets fully broken-in this will disappear. This is not noticeable when the jacket is zipped up, but as I will be wearing it more as a casual jacket, it will be unzipped most of the time. Overall, I'm extremely happy with the 118, the fit is true to my size, and the quality is second to none! When I wore it to go gas up the car today, the store clerk remarked..."nice jacket, chief!", so yes, I've already had my first compliment! It certainly is a head-turner and delivers just the right amount of 'mojo'... I'm sure when it gets truly broken-in will look even better! I still have my eye on the 618HH, and after reviewing the measurements Schott sent me, I think it will fit me just fine, so another Schott purchase might be in my future!

This jacket is super comfortable, extremely well-made, and great looking! I have always wanted one and should have bought it sooner. I especially appreciate the long size as I am 6’ 4” and it’s tough to find a great fit. This one fits perfectly!
