Great jacket of thick leather; a keeper for decades that will only get better with time and wearing. My third Schott jacket, and we bought two for our sons. A classic American company from product to shipping to customer service. Bravo!
This is exactly the jacket I was searching for and I can't believe I got it for the price I did. I was very fortunate to catch the sale but even if I didn't this coat is worth every penny. It looks even better in person, like others said the pics really don't do this justice. I was worried it may be too shiny for my taste but it's not at all. The leather is a rich tobacco brown and already started breaking in beautifully. It's heavy, the leather is thick and the craftsmanship is superb.
Some have made fun of the lining but I really like it. I think it looks cool but everyone has different tastes. I do think a quilted liner would make this the absolute perfect jacket though but not complaining. I wanted a jacket that I could wear on and off my motorcycle and this one is perfect for any occasion. And I know when I ride I will feel protected because it's a hefty and thick design. If there was one other thing I'd recommend it would be zippers on the sleeve openings for when you ride but not a deal breaker for me.
For reference I am 47, 6 ft, 190 lbs, 44 in chest, broad shoulders and I could stand lose 5-10 lbs in my stomach area truth be told. I bought the XL and it fits perfect in my opinion. Has a tapered look but not tight like Euro brand sizing. Plenty of room to move around in every area. It's not a real short jacket either like you see on a lot of Moto styles which is also a plus because it won't ride up too high when on my bike.
Obviously I highly recommend this jacket. I feel it's heirloom quality and something I'll pass down to one of my boys. Worth every penny and I feel confident you won't regret the purchase either.
Was easy to order online, shipped timely, fits great, and looks fantastic. Its my second Schott jacket. I love them both.
I was pleasantly surprised by the heft and quality construction on this piece. I have an heirloom quality, Horween, Aero Leather jacket and this Schott jacket will also be an heirloom piece. It has beautiful coloring and pull-up and will serve me well for years to come. My wife even likes the Schott over the Aero! Looking forward to my next Schott jacket. Thank you for building a great product!
I have had this jacket for about two weeks now, and have worn it almost exclusively. Here are my first impressions.
First the good:
Great leather feel - substantial and hefty, without being overly bulky. The jacket seems to be breaking in nicely, but will certainly take several more months of wear before being fully broken in.
Awesome fit - I am 6' even, at a guilt ridden 205-210 lbs. and this jacket fits me to a T. I probably can't pull off wearing anything bulkier than a light shirt underneath, but I don't really want to either.
Fantastic Price - given the fit and finish of this jacket, I feel it is exceptionally well priced. That is due in part to the materials being sourced outside of US, but it is something I am willing to overlook given the final product.
The Not So Good:
The collar - to me it looks a bit bulkier than the picture, and not as proportional to the rest of the garment. I am hoping that this is partially due to the leather being stiff and not broken in, and am very close to covering it up with a scarf and taking a mallet to it to help it soften up. As an added "bonus" of not being broken in, the collar stands up every time I put the jacket on, prompting profanities and a little shimmy to put it back in place.
Speaking of not being broken in, the seam under the lining that connects the collar to the back, was very protrusive on my jacket, and nearly wore a hole in my neck during the first week. I worked the seam with my fingers for a bit to soften it up, and it seems to have gotten better now, but overall my sense is that there was a bit more leather left on that seem than there should have been.
The lining - I am not bothered by the "welcome back to the 1970s" brown lining pattern, even though I think the jacket would pop much more with a brighter red or plaid lining. But the material of the lining I don't like that much. It feels a bit too rough and low end for my taste, and I would have preferred a silk lining that would help the jacket easily slide on instead.
A second symmetrical inside breast pocket would have been awesome.
Be warned - the leather marks very easily. Most spots rub out via a quick massage with your fingers, but if you are not a fan of quickly acquiring marks on your jacket, this may not be the best fit for you.
Overall, in spite of its imperfections, it is a solid and handsome jacket that can be the workhorse of your wardrobe, without being pretentious or flashy.
Jacket is great and heavy!! Schott customer service was great to work with and answered my questions in a timely manner. Will take some time to break in, but that is part of the fun of getting a good quality leather jacket. I look forward to wearing the crap out of this jacket.
As with all Schott products, the materials are high quality and the jacket is well made (cut, stitching, seams etc) The jacket does need to be "broken-in", but, after continuous wear will result in a better fit. I am typically a size 44-46/34 waist and purchased the XL.
I just received my first Schott jacket! It's amazing! I needed help sizing it and ordering online. The staff at Schott were fast, friendly and always helpful! More importantly, the jacket is awesome!
If you're not sure whether to invest in Schott, just do it! You won't regret it!
This is a great jacket! The modern fit is perfect and the weight makes it great for a cold day. Love the feeling of breaking in new leather! I stand about 6'2 and weigh 210, I bought an XL and it's a great fit.
Got mine yesterday. i agree with other posters. Its really a very handsome, well made jacket.
Online pics don't do it justice. Mine isn't as distressed looking as online pics and I'm fine with that.
leather is very heavy and will need breaking in, but that's something I wont mind doing as I look forward to wearing the hell out of it.
Yes - interior lining is ummm kinda cheesey and reminds me of a Seinfeld episode. Fortunately its rather subdued and wont be noticed when wearing. But who picked THAT pattern?
It's my only gripe and one I can live with as everything else about the jacket is amazing.
Zippers function like butter which is more than i can say about other expensive jackets i've bought. Very nice.
I'm 6'4" with a 44 chest and 33 waist.
I ordered an XL.
The sleeves are long enough for me but there is more space than I would like in the chest and especially around the waist. The jacket doesn't taper much down there and there are no straps to tighten.
I called Customer Service and they said a Large was just as long as the XL but about an inch tighter in the chest/waist. I'm going to exchange for a Large and it should fit perfect.
Great jacket. Worth every penny.
