Saw this jacket at the NYC store and I knew I had to have it! Beautiful shine and fits perfectly. I'm in love!

It’s time to take a Schott when it comes to this jacket. You can dress it up or down. The quality is amazing and when you put it on you’ll instantaneously feel like the badass you are. I have a couple of Schott jackets and this is definitely a favorite. The customer service is great with people that can answer any question you have. I highly recommend getting this. It’s not loud. But it definitely makes a statement.

I got this jacket a couple of years ago at Schott's LA store.
Thick luxurious leather - with amazing craftmanship. It actually is a steal - given the leather quality, craftmanship and being made in the US. I love the simple but luxurious style that this jacket has. Of course, it is very stiff (as mentioned on the site) - but breaks in beautifully and becomes very comfortable over time.

The sizing is a bit iffy - I am glad I went to the store. The folks at the LA store were extremely patient and helpful - cannot thank them enough.

Sizing details:
My stats: Weight ~140-143 lb, 38" chest, 29 " waist, 5'9" height.
689H size 36 fits perfectly. Snug without being tight.
Its length is perfect - coming at about ~25 inches.
For mall brand jackets - I usually wear an S - measuring 20 inches - from pit to pit.
As per the spec sheets - size 36 for 689H measures 21 3/4 for chest (unlike my usual 20" pit to pit). This makes sense when one accounts for the thick leather and the bi-swing.

Also, the jacket is great for moderate cold weather & wind. I have worn it with a thick cotton tee at about 30F - felt quite comfortable.

I am very happy with this purchase.

As expected, another fantastic jacket from Schott. A real old school motorcycle jacket. Why anyone would may more for a Japanese imitation is a mystery to me. So glad I added this jacket to my collection.

This jacket is beautiful, and built like tank armor but breaking in nicely from wearing it at home a bit every day. The recommendation to size up, however, should probably be taken off the website. After reading other reviews and comparing my measurements to the spec sheet Schott customer service sent to me on request, I opted to order my regular suit jacket size (38). I am slim with an athletic build, and generally speaking I can wear a 38 suit or sport jacket off the rack without much alteration except sleeve length sometimes. The size 38 for this jacket fits really well and is not overly tight (I can comfortably wear a normal-sized hoodie underneath and do not feel super-constricted when I do so). If I had sized up one size like recommended, I would be swimming in it. I think the sizing up recommendation may be more for non-athletically built folks since the jacket does taper quite a bit so might be an issue if you're carrying a spare tire in your gut area or otherwise have a more pear-shaped physique.

This a quality item. It is really beautiful! The design was exactly what I was hoping for. My only issue is that it is really stiff and I know that I will not wear this jacket enough to ever properly break it in. I actually completed the paperwork to return the item and changed my mind at the last minute. The jacket is too beautiful for me to return. If Schott decides to make this jacket in a softer leather, I would also buy that one.

I was pleased to experience my first ever horsehide jacket after multiple wrong purchases and returns in the past.
But I was surprised to find the hardware scratched up on the back side, that did not feel new at all.
One side of the front felt rigid and one side felt "papery" like it will crumble or tear off upon mild wear.
There are loose stitches hanging, the bottom seam at the waist line seems shoddily stitched.
Some parts of the jacket feel durable and new and some do not.
This was definitely not the case when I bought a 618 5 years and sold it as it was not my style.

I am not sure if I was unlucky with my jacket being a one off bad piece or if there are QC issues with current pieces, but it was an underwhelming experience.

I ordered this jacket based on size/fit discussion with the online associates here and I don't understand the direction to size up - I did that and had to return my jacket as it was far too big. I wear 44 suit coats, I have 3 leather motorcycle jackets (one Schott and 2 others) that are 44 so this was suggested to be 46. Absolutely swimming in it, Terrible fit. Take the "order one size up" advise with a huge grain of salt.

Very helpfully thought they have provided me the spec sheet for the jacket with all the measurements so I am going to go get measured at a tailor to ensure I order the correct size.

With all that out of the way, the jacket itself. I can't wait to get the proper fit as material wise and looks wise this is everything it says. Absolutely beautiful jacket! Once I get it sized right I will probably just live in it!

I have owned two Schott MC Jackets I bought them both used. I still have one of them (out grew) one. and sold it.

So I was familiar with the brand and the legacy that accompanies these fine jackets. I was hesitant to make this big a spend on a jacket I may well never fully break in, let alone wear it out in my lifetime.

I have had many, many, leather jackets. All with the sole purpose of MC riding protection. These jackets are (imho) the best value going. There are only a few manufactures that make a suitable (leather) riding jacket. So if you are looking a this jacket as MC safety apparel, look no further.

This jacket is sized extremely accurately. Other reviews have mentioned this. The Horse Hide spread collar jacket is heavy. It would probably stop a bullet (lol)

The quality is unmatched.

I had been to Schott many years ago and stopped in looking for a black leather jacket. Joe did an excellent job of showing me several different types of leather jackets and pointed me towards the 689h which I bought. He was very knowledgeable and patient and made me feel welcomed. I love the jacket and will definitely be back. Joe is the go to guy!

I am impressed with this jacket. It's my first Schott jacket, and it's a keeper.

I am 5'9", 175 lbs,, and am not athletic. At 55, I'm an old punk. My chest is 40" and my waist is 35". After reading all the reviews, I opted to take a chance on getting a size 38, although I was worried I might have to trade up for a size 40 once it arrived. It turns out the size 38 was perfect. It's a tiny bit tight in the waist, but only just so, and the leather will relax a bit there over time. Also, I prefer my leather jackets to be form-fitting (not a sausage casing per se, but also not too loose). I don't like a bunch of room. I usually wear them unzipped unless it's cold and I'm outside doing nothing and need to bundle up. The size 38 for me fits well in the shoulders and chest -- probably owing to it being a motorcycle jacket. I took a chance it and it worked out perfectly. I can't wear a thick hoodie underneath when it's zipped up, but I'm fine with this. I've been outside in just a light flannel shirt and this jacket when it was in the low 30s and I was fine. I forgot how toasty leather can be once your body heat warms it up.

As for the durability, this jacket is a beast. It's going to take a while to break in, but that also means that it will last a lifetime. And it's already comfortable, but will get even better over time. I'm glad I picked horsehide. This jacket is incredibly thick. I don't ride a motorcycle, but I would trust it if I went down.

Wearing this jacket makes me want to check out another Schott jacket in a lighter leather. That way I could have this bulletproof jacket with its more simple style as my go-to and say maybe something different in brown that's fancier for dressier occasions. This jacket is pretty punk to me (not "Perfecto" punk, mind you, but it's got the punkish vibe). It definitely means business.

This jacket is absolutely beautiful. I already own so many leather Schott jackets, but I never owned a horsehide one. I was having trouble deciding what to get, but I love the spread collar design on this. The design is very similar to the 641 (which I already own and love), but I just really gravitated toward this jacket.

Quality is top notch. Jacket started out really stiff, but is slowly breaking in. Definitely will take a couple of years to completely soften, but it's certainly becoming more comfortable over time.

The body of the jacket is lined with a really durable quilted nylon, while the sleeves are polyester lined. Additionally, the brass hardware on this looks beautiful. I love the way is contrasts with the shiny black leather. For those concerned with any shine, note that this will dissipate over time.

In terms of sizing, this jacket runs large. I don't know why Schott mentions to size up on this because the design is quite roomy and very boxy. In case this is a concern, there are also waist adjustments on this to help slim the torso.
For reference, I'm 5'8, about 175 pounds, and have a 40 inch chest. I bought this in a size 38 and it fits perfect. I can easily fit a nice thick sweater/hoodie under it.

I've gotten so many compliments on this jacket and people are always shocked by the weight (my guess is that it weighs around 6 pounds). It's an amazing jacket and if you're considering getting it, don't skip over it.

The design, cut and quality of workmanship are first class and deservedly world reknowned.
The hide is heavy and warm and tanned and preserved to a medium polish that sports creases well and in a snug fit is very warm riding.
I am 5" 5" and was pleased with the length of this jacket. I requested the specifications and chose my size according to these together with a careful examination of the reviews posted here for this jacket. The sizing chart which suggests your size automatically I found although accurate for the perfect torso was not suitable for me, as I am a mature age man and not of an athletic build. Therefore I found that the size one smaller than my usual size was perfect for a slim fitting appearance. However, unless you know your own measurements well I would suggest you follow the recommendations of the sizing charts together with any advice the staff may give you.
This jacket is the prize of my collection and there is none other that comes any where near. A good jacket does not have to stand up on its own, it really takes its character from the shoulders bearing it.

It's very exciting to open that neat box with Schott tape on it. Here we go again, I got another Schott jacket. The very first time I wore it I was stopped several times and given compliments over and over again on this masterpiece. Very well made, perfect fit and very comfortable, smooth surface,
great leather smell, and heavy duty made to wear again and again. The brass hardware looks so amazing with the black horse hide leather. I said it before and will say it again, Schott is second to none. If it isn't a Schott then it is just a cheap knock off and doesn't belong on my back. Thanks again to the Schott team for the dedication and hard work on creating a brilliant stylish classic leather jacket.

If the traditional leather jacket with the asymmetrical zipper is not for you, this beautiful, simple design is perfect.

I bought this 689H because I love motorcycle jackets and wear one while riding almost year ‘round, even in summer heat. I particularly love horsehide jackets and boots. I have more than a dozen traditional asymmetrical zipper jackets, including three Schott Perfectos: a naked cowhide model 118 with a faux fur collar (size 48); a buffalo-hide model PER22 (size 48); and a size XL model 628HV1 (a vintaged horsehide reproduction of the original 1928 D-pocket Perfecto) — all in addition to a Schott A-2 flight jacket. .

I followed the size guide and the advice in the description of this jacket. At 6’0”, 225 pounds, with a 46” chest and a 36” waist, I ordered up a size from my usual size 46 suit jacket to size 48, as I did with two of my other a Perfectos. This jacket fits me perfectly — even better than the other Schotts I own. There is more room in the chest and upper arms.

The horsehide used in this 689H is shiny, black and gorgeous. It feels bulletproof. My only concern is that I may never get it broken in. I may have to put all my other jackets in storage and devote all my wearing time to this one. Or maybe I’ll save it for dressier occasions for which a leather jacket is still appropriate... like my fourth wedding or my funeral, either of which would have the same effect on my enjoyment of life.

Get a Schott jacket while you can still enjoy your life. I highly recommend this 689H.

This will save you time and money... Just go a size down. I got a size 42 and its too big, should have got a size 40... My chest size is 40 and the size 42 is too big. Sleeves are also too long. And I cant afford the money and hassle to return it. (tags are removed but i still have them)

I have an athletic/muscular type of body and this jacket is forgiving around the chest, but snug around the arms. Which gives it a really cool silhouette. If you are on the fence about 689h I highly recommend you just get it. It's worth every penny.

TLDR: Quality of construction is excellent; quality of materials is very good; order 2 sizes and return 1; no longer has an American flag tag inside.

I've had this jacket for close to 2 months and am quite happy with it. I was looking for a spread collar jacket that was not a double breasted style but still somewhat fitted. I landed on the 689 and was delighted to find I preferred the smooth look of horsehide to the naturally textured look of cowhide.

If I lived anywhere close I would have visited the NYC flagship store or even LA (Chicago now closed) but up here in the upper Midwest dealers are few and far between. I relied on the Fit Guide, ordered 1 size up (Standard Fit) and it arrived in days. (Never underestimate the power of a well stocked warehouse.) And it came with a hanger! That may be minor but a nice touch as I was wondering how I was going to care for it.

The fit out of the box was very good for an off-the-shelf product. The arm pits are well positioned, the arms slim, and it falls naturally just below my belt. There is no bunching of material under the arms so it feels comfortable while wearing and driving. Somewhere I read that new jackets will 'relax' about half a size and I would agree. The chest now seems a bit looser than the initial fit If I could go back in time I would order both the Slim Fit and the Standard Fit and return one of them. In my case I would not want the shoulders any narrower - so my Standard Fit may be the best fit off the rack.

Materials? Top notch. Craftsmanship? Top notch. It is not stiff enough to stand up by itself but it is definitely robust and warm. I have been using it daily on brisk walks where it definitely blocks wind and I have been comfortable down to 20F.

So why 4 stars instead of 5? One of the panels on the underside of the arm (zipper panel) doesn't match the smoothness of the rest of the jacket. My intention is to use the jacket not have closet queen so I kept it. If it had been any other panel I would have returned it. The second reason is that I really wanted the American flag tag that stated "Made in USA" with the size indicated. Instead I have a tag in gold lettering on black that says "Made in USA of Imported Materials".
