This Schott leather is quietly cool - unlike my classic Schott "Sailor Jerry" Perfecto - which demands attention. And it's airy and lightweight as advertised. Nothing but compliments so far. Thanks Schott!
Was at my local vendor looking for a jacket for warmer weather and none of the other Schott cafe racers were lightweight enough. Ordered this one in to try it on and it was even better than I assumed. The pictures don't do it justice. It's a gorgeous and extremely lightweight Cafe Racer with all the quality of a Schott. Came sleek, smooth and semi-shiny. Fit was normal to very slightly large. Got an XL like I usually do for my 6'2" 210lb frame, My only possible complaint is that the inner pocket reinforcement contours show through the leather surface significantly (due to their bulk and leather lightness), so It might be better with a delete or less substantial pocket reinforcement. I still definitely recommend this jacket to anyone who is prioritizing lightness. It's a 60F-80F jacket. Perfect for the slot right before you need to switch to mesh for riding.
You get everything that you pay for in this jacket. The quality and fit are top-notch. This was purchased for end of spring summer riding. Have seen lots of reviews on the sizing. I am 5’ 10” 190, and this jacket fits perfectly in large.
Initial Impressions:
For reference, I am 5’11, 210, 47 chest, and athletic Build. I wear XL in all my jackets and this one is no different. I got the XL Size. XL was the size the find my fit calculator recommended as well. Fits me very well and not too tight around the chest. Leaves room to layer if needed.
I wished there were reviews / content on this specific jacket but I couldn’t find any before purchasing. So I hope this helps if you’re running into this post.
Simply said, it is an amazing jacket. If you live in a warm climate state, this is the one for you. The 530 cafe racer is very similar design but has a cotton fabric liner which runs more warm then this 100% polyester lining which is cool to and silky smooth to the touch. The lining material feels durable as well. It also makes for a smooth as butter putting on and off.
The leather is outstanding as you’d expect from Schott.
If your a military/veteran, they offer a discount code as well if you contact them which is amazing. USA made and Supports military/veterans with a discount code.
The simplicity of the 554 design makes this a very versatile leather jacket. Dress it up or down.
Note: If you conceal carry, make sure you’re grip on your carry firearm will not be abrasive to the lining though as the polyester can be worn extremely fast with a aggressive grip texture.
10/10 recommend
Hey guys -- just in case, as I was, you're thinking about it. I'm 6'1" (little over) and about 205; 45/46 in. chest.; waist around 35/36. I thought about this jacket for a while. I don't live near a Schott store anymore (haven't in a long time, actually), so I went to a local retailer that had a very limited selection. I tried on heavy, mid-, and lightweight (unlined) jackets. I ride bikes but won't use this, really, for riding -- maybe once or twice. But for me that's not it's purpose. I realized that the heavyweight classics are truly heavyweight; I couldn't wear them comfortably at anything over about 50 deg., I think (but I run warm). Similar with the middleweight. The very lightest weight, unlined, was attractive but not very jacket-like -- more of a leather shirt, in a way.
The shop did not have this model and wasn't prepared to get it in for me, so I took a chance and ordered it up. I got the XL. I'm not going to say the chest and shoulders aren't a bit tight -- they are -- but the jacket sits on me really, really well. The leather is flawless and the weight -- while substantial enough to count as a "real" jacket -- isn't extreme. The lining is nice, smooth, and light as well. I do find, though, that I'll get too warm over about 70 deg. (that's where I would use the super-lightweight, I think). But basically, this is THE ONE. Feels great, looks great, I'm happy just wearing it. I wish I'd had the money and inclination to get one a long, long time ago. I honestly can't figure out why there aren't more reviews because for me, this is the perfect jacket for balancing the bike tradition against the needs of an everyday jacket. I hope to be buried in it. If my boys don't rip it off my corpse first.
This was my first Schott jacket, and everything you've read and heard about the brand is true. The quality is amazing. The leather itself is perfection -- beautiful look, feel and smell. I'm 6'1", 210 lbs. and the Large fit perfectly. It's a true original. And it's still made in America. Jerri in Customer Service was a huge help as well. A wise man once told me: if you want to buy something special, save up until you can afford the best quality product available. Schott is it.
I wanted to buy the 530 but it is out of stock. The staff suggested the 554, it looks the same with the 530 but no breast pocket . No worries because I love it and its my first leather jacket originally made in the USA. I bought this yesterday in Elizabeth St, NYC. I believe 530 is feeling warmer than 554 but since I live in Sunshine state of Australia definitely a YES for me for 4 seasons.
Needed some leather for Street Moto in AZ and this Cafe jacket is Exceptional. The fit is Superb and so is the function. No chilly breezes passed through the zipper, even at some illegal speeds. Moreover, this jacket (554) makes me feel really good.. like I made the only good choice.
I purchased this jacket in the Schott NYC Brooklyn location. I was initially looking at the 530 but was suggested the 554 by the employee who was helping me. I was impressed with how soft the leather is and liked that the fit wasn’t super slim. I have an average build 6’ 215 lbs and a large fits perfectly. This is a no frills, functional jacket. No breast pocket, no problem for me. I see that this is a new product from Schott NYC and wanted to provide a positive review. I do ride a motorcycle and this jacket is functional enough to ride with. I also live in Florida and the liner in the 530 would make this uncomfortable to ride in in the summer time. I am happy with this purchase.
