Absolutely perfect in every category. The sizing was very accurate. It’s weight and quality unseen in today’s marketplace means I will enjoy it forever.
At 48 years old, weighing 90 kg and standing 1.90 m tall with a chest width of 110 cm, I own many jackets from various origins, primarily German and American. I’ve had some Perfecto models and a 141. I still own a Vanson jacket, which I’ve mainly used while riding vintage motorcycles (great jacket, by the way).
This jacket (size L, fits like it’s tailor-made), however, is the first that has allowed me to wear it not only while riding but also day and night. If it were up to me, I would never take it off—I’d even sleep in it. Its enclosed design and balanced weight make it versatile enough to wear from an autumn day to a spring day without any issues, even in the rain. It has enough space to layer a sweater or a hoodie, and if you want to dress formally, you can wear a shirt underneath and give your outfit an absolutely rock’n’roll touch. It all depends on who you are and how you like to look, but this is a jacket that would have definitely been appreciated by James Dean and possibly Marlon Brando. The patina, waxed right out of the box, is perfect.
The Schott jackets hold special significance for me as I come from an old German colony in southern Chile and had more than one friend with that surname. I can only say that anyone willing to pay for this jacket will feel extremely satisfied. 10 out of 10.
I dropped into SchottNYC here in San Francisco to pick up a pea coat in a size long that I’d ordered back when it was actually chilly. Like many, I already owned a pea coat from another brand, but certainly not this quality. And it showed.
While in the store, I glanced around to see if I could replace a trucker-style leather jacket that has seen better days (also from another maker). Normally, I’d steer away from the rows of storied Perfectos. They’re cool and have great style, but just not for me.
So I was very surprised to see this 533 model among them and tried it on. Didn’t take long for me to convince myself I’d finally found a workaday leather jacket I could wear all year.
I’m tall, but the fit is still good. The shoulder width is very slightly more narrow than I’d prefer — not uncomfortable, and ease of movement is still very good. But a little more room would be better. Nonetheless, I think the coat will shape to me nicely with time. The sleeves are long, as is the style with motorcycle jackets; and that’s fine. Such is the same with pea coats: they’re long to protect from cold weather, and to fit well with gloves.
This is now my third SchottNYC coat (the first was the fleece bomber). While so many of the styles are clearly for northeast weather, it does get chilly enough here in SF for the pea coat. And actually cold enough for the great and iconic fleece bomber jacket for perhaps a month. I always enjoy wearing the fleece bomber whenever the opportunity arises.
But back to this waxy pullup 533: it is a coat that I will be able to wear year-round, with T-shirts underneath when it’s warm, or bulky sweaters when it’s not. I like the nature of how it will wear, making a virtue of scuffs and marks. While not yet having the occasion, I think this 533 can even dress up to a degree, perhaps with grey flannel trousers and Oxford shoes, and look great.
Yes, the price is high. But you see and feel what you are paying for. The leather is fine and supple to the touch. The craftsmanship is evident. And the surety of buying from a solid American manufacturer like SchottNYC is entirely worth the price of admission.
I love the simple profile and unique color of this classic Schott motorcycle jacket. I have been considering a new Schott leather jacket for several years, and this is absolutely the one. Top notch quality and extremely comfortable from first wear. Great purchase!
Just want to echo all the other reviewers' compliments of this jacket, and add that the pictures of it are exactly how it looks in real life. If you're wondering what color "grey" is in a leather jacket, or if the pictures are how it looks in reality, yes they are. The actual color is exactly what it looks like in the pictures. It is a subtle mix of black and brown, faded a bit, and waxed, to result in a faded grey-ish patina with hues of both black and brown. The black zippers and inner lining contrast with and accentuate the leather nicely. Looks good in either casual or smart outfits, and with both black/greyscale and earth-tone ensembles. Combined with complete lack of bling (epaulets, dangly zippers, waist belt, etc), it comes across as subdued but strong. Finally, the waxed cowhide should be more rain-resistant than unwaxed leather, though if you live in a snowy clime with lots of salt on the roads in winter, you'll still regular care and conditioning for it. Nice work, Schott.
How to start? This jacket has everything I need: thick oiled leather, vintage feel, not too tight not too loose. You can wear it with a t-shirt during at weekends, or wear it with business shirt on workdays. This pull-up leather has the best quality out of all leather jackets that I ever touched. It's like wearing a luxury sofa! I own two RRL leather jackets that cost $2000+, but neither comes close in terms of the quality (although they have better vintage style). In conclusion, I think this jacket worths every penny.
I am absolutely loving this jacket. Got it about two weeks ago and I don’t wanna take it off. It was a little stiff at first but it’s already loosening up nicely. Love the minimalist design. It’s got all the cool guy leather jacket looks without the extra snaps and belts. Thick leather that still feels soft to the touch and doesn’t squeak like some other leather products. It was a high price point, more than I ever spent on a coat before, but you definitely get what you pay for. 10/10
I had to exchange for a size up. Their measuring chart is accurate, XL is standard fit and 2XL is their relaxed fit. I prefer the relaxed fit so trust their fitting chart. The quality is outstanding and the customer service is beyond incredible. Free return shipping for exchanges. As insane as it sounds, I had my exchange in 8 days. You always get what you pay for!
I’ve owned several Schott jackets over the years, and this one is probably my second favorite. It’s the perfect weight, roomy enough to have a relaxed fit or wear layers underneath and has a soft, broken in feel. I also like that it keeps the vibe of the Perfecto alive but without the heavy duty belt and excess snaps which I always found a bit annoying. Overall an excellent jacket!
The 533 is the first leather jacket that I saw that I knew I had to have. I ordered it blind despite a price tag that would normally scare me off, and being inexperienced with the material. I don't regret it for a second. It is a beautiful jacket, and will look just as nice on a date as it would on stage or on a Harley. The color finds a way to look black in certain lights, true gray in others, and even has hints of a dark taupe. The sizing guide, and the first reviewer, Greg, are very accurate. I am have a skinny build--6'0 170lbs, and generally wear 38" chest suits. The size medium fits as if it was tailored for me specifically. I wouldn't size up or down even if the different size was given to me for free. There is room enough to move freely and for layers underneath, but not so much that it looks baggy or frumpy. Perfecto. (Sorry, had to throw in the terrible pun). Five stars for a great jacket proudly made in the USA by a family owned business,
