Just replaced my exact one that I’ve had for 7 years... this looks so good and is so warm and can take a beating
I have been looking for a good pea coat for some time. Took a chance on this based on reading reviews for weeks. Unfortunately I did not order until during the deep freeze in Oklahoma and while I was recovering from COVID so I've only worn once but will be ready for next year. I will say that I am very impressed with the weight, warmth and quality of this coat. I am a CPA and used to wearing nice clothes. This year bought an Italian made beautiful overcoat from my specialty men's clothing store and and spent substantially more than this pea coat. As beautiful as that overcoat is, and I get a lot of compliments, the quality in construction, weight, and lining, do not come close to this pea coat. I know this will be a coat that I wear for years.
I am 6’6”, 225 lbs. I wear a 46 extra long blazer, 37” sleeves on dress shirts. I have a 38” waist. This coat fits just right. I have full range of motion and do not feel any tightness or binding when moving.
Functionally, the coat is quite warm yet not bulky, possibly due to the quilted lining. The collar, when turned up, adds an extra layer of protection from the wind.
The coat looks sharp, and you can feel the quality. Very well done, Schott.
Absolutely as I expected, a classic timeless essential that will be an heirloom.
Warm and durable. My only issues At 5’7”, the sleeves are a little long, and I will need to have them professionally altered.
This however, is the case with most coats and jackets I purchase.
This is similar to my original navy peacoat only better. Some 62 years later this peacoat is very well made and very warm. I would recommend this peacoat.
I bought this coat in the long version way back in 2013, thought I might write another review because well 8 years with this coat is an experience and beats out of the box reviews imo. It has held up extremely well and is just like it was when I unpacked it in 2013, it wears extremely well with time there never was much pilling or any thing defective etc. The threading in the buttons I modified myself because I simply do it with all sewn buttons with any coat, which is with a syringe I bind the thread and button with high strength super glue where it wont be seen but also keep any possible unthreading as happens with sewn buttons...never was an issue just what I do. I recently had it dry cleaned and it is simply in wonderful condition, heavy, extremely warm and it has sharp looks and has served me VERY well over the 8 years I have had it...I have NEVER been cold even in the slightest in this Pea coat. Thank you Schott for making wonderfully well made high quality products, you cannot go wrong with this coat if your looking for a warm winter coat with good looks. 8 years and going strong, I will have MANY more years with this great coat.
Closest I could find to replace my original US Navy Peacoat .from the 70s.. Customer service a very helpful and responsive in determining the size and color and all my questions. Pointed out the full size is actually an overcoat. And recommended a size smaller for a more trimmer fit based on my height and weight.. Shipped quick, looks good and fits great!
Coat is def very warm almost like a heavy blanket the new navy is probably more of a navy color other than the straight navy. I don't own a navy pea but if the new blue is lighter the reg navy is almost close to black. Fit is your suit size the site recommended me a 32. I ordered a 36 because I wear a light sweater and it's just enough room to move. Overall I am impressed with the quality, color, and fit. Thanks Schott
Extremely well made coat. An average pea coat will keep you warm just fine. This coat is well above average. Impossible to miss the fact that this product is made by people who take pride in their work.
I bought the 740 as a gift for myself to celebrate 2021. I already own the 257S (B-3 Bomber) so I really didn’t need another winter jacket. However, the B-3 is not good for the occasional rainy day.
Anyway, this is my third Schott jacket. I never owned a peacoat before but I knew Schott jackets were quality so I was not hesitant to get this. I absolutely love this peacoat. I got the New Navy color because I didn’t want something too dark; however, even the New Navy almost looks black, unless it’s a very sunny day where the Navy color can shine.
The jacket has two inside pockets, one on each side. The two outside pockets are deeper than I expected, but is a huge plus. As for the sizing of this jacket, I normally wear medium-sized shirts/jackets. I am 5’8, about 160 pounds, and have a 39” chest, I usually prefer slimmer fits for jackets, so I sized down to a 36 for this, which is perfect. Schott jackets tend to run bigger on me.
This jacket goes extremely well with a pair of leather gloves. I like to wear my Fratelli Orsini gloves with this. Not only do they help keep me warm, but the outfits are perfect. I usually wear this with a pair of Red Wing boots too.
Anyway this jacket is beautiful. It’s not comparable to the 257S in terms of keeping you extremely warm, but it is definitely good in cold weather (as long as it’s not extremely windy). If you’re considering getting this, it definitely is worth a purchase.
