Love the jacket. Does a masterfull job of keeping the chilly wind out. I have 2 minor issues. First, the outside chest pocket is somewhat hard to access if you have put something in there that is somewhat small and it goes all the way to the bottom. Second, jacket is a little long for a person my size [ 5'8"] average build. A 24" length would be better or a 2 way zipper, so it could be opened slightly at the bottom. Has a tendency to ride up when sitting on motorcycle. Otherwise a nice fitting jacket.
...it might feel something like this. Wants another chest pocket IMO but that's about the only knock I can deliver against the style. Workmanship is superb, and the leather is surprisingly supple for the weight.
As to fit: I am maaybe 5'5" if I stand ramrod straight, 160lbs, 32in waist, 42in chest (former gymnast.) With a t-shirt or thin sport shirt the size 38 fits comfortably in the torso and snugly across the shoulders; holding a cellphone to my ear I'm fighting the leather across my lats and cutting off a little circulation below my bicep. Cuffs hang past my knuckles unzipped but are tight on my forearms when zipped.
I would go up a size but it's already too long for me; comes down past my belt line by about 2.5in and, zipped, rides up past the bottom of my jaw when sitting. It's a fabulous jacket and it looks good on me standing, in a bulge-out-the-sides-of-the-armholes way, but I'm bummed the Schott custom ability is offline because I was hoping to order something like a foreshortened size 40; I'm definitely making the "bi-swing shoulder" earn its keep. Schott, I'll work on breaking this one in, but when you're able to do custom work again please let me know because I'd love to have (and am willing to pay extra for) one of these beauties that actually moved with me instead of bouncing on top of me.
#689 HH horsehide leather jacket,Worth every $ ,Quality made like the bomber jacket they sell in the 80’s
My first Leather Jacket was a brown bomber followed the next year by a Perfecto they were literally the only brand we knew. That was in 1977 at Bills Army Navy in Irvington NJ. I still have the perfecto, and with the exception of some torn vent stitching, it survived every NYC Club from the Mudd to TR3 and The Ritz and I still wear it. It was time for a new jacket. This is the last leather jacket I will ever need, but probably not the last Schott Bros. leather jacket I will ever get . Bonne merde cest bonnne. Thank you for getting better with age. JP
I love Schott NYC. I’m happy with my recent purchase as well as my last 3 coat/jacket purchases. My only wish is that I could have gotten my recent jacket 2-3” longer as I wear my pants on my hips. Old hippie here, lol.. customer service was awesome. I purchased one jacket a size to large and then bought one a size smaller. I returned the first jacket and promptly had a refund on my credit card. Awesome company. Thank you for everything!
Great quality jacket. Felt awesome from the moment I put it on. Since I wear my pants low ( on my hips) an option for a longer jacket would be appreciated. Other than that, it’s as good a jacket as my Scott Bomber jacket, and my pea coat. I am a HUGE FAN of Schott USA. In addition, they are made in the USA!!!!
Fits like a glove. The leather is soft and supple. Can't wait to wear it in cold weather.
I’d been considering this jacket for some time, and I’m very happy with this purchase. The jacket is beautiful, and it’s hardcore heavy duty horsehide leather, beefy Schott zippers. The styling and function are great. My only concern before ordering was properly sizing the jacket. Information regarding this was conflicting, but I just triple-checked my chest size and ended up ordering my suit jacket size, a 42”. My jacket fits nearly perfect, but It’s important to keep in mind two things when it comes to sizing. First, these are not custom tailored jackets, most clothes aren’t, so it they’ll be trade-offs. Second, if you don’t have an athletic build, don’t be surprised with the fit - that’s probably why Schott seems to recommend a size up. I highly recommend this jacket.
I was worried about the sizing based on other reviews (which were helpful). I am writing this to help anyone out worried about sizing. I am 5'11, 190lbs and a size 44 is perfect. I even have longer arms and the sleeve length is perfect. It is touch roomy but not overly and I would be worried that a 42 would be too tight, certainly a 46 would be too loose. This is the best jacket I've ever purchased, if you buy it you won't be disappointed.
I searched long and hard before landing on this jacket as my choice to wear while riding my new motorcycle. I could not be happier. I took the advice and ordered the next size larger so I could add a warm layer underneath in my cold climate. It fits exactly like I want, close but not too tight with room for some fleece if needed. I look forward to a lifetime with this jacket.
