I previously purchased a leather jacket from Schott, as well as a pea coat shirt/jacket. So, I knew the quality would be worth the price. Sure enough, I received the Nylon Flight Jacket soon after placing the order. You can normally tell when you put something on whether it is well-made. That was the case here. It's warm enough, fits great, and it looks good on me.
My only complaint is that the weather is warming up, and I may not get that much use out of the jacket until autumn. Hahaha. Thanks, Schott, I love the jacket!
This was definitely the right choice to make for me. I purchased the black version. Love the gunmetal color zipper versus brass or even chrome. Looks great. Schott must have updated the fit from the older versions because even though it has *somewhat puffy sleeves the rest of the jacket hugs my slim 5'10" 155lb 38" chest better than the older non slim versions.
Also fabric is more matte looking versus shiny which IMO makes it look more attractive .
Quality is totally worth the asking price .
It is a no brainer purchase if looking for this type of jacket. Don't think twice just buy it.
I am very pleased with the fit and quality of the jacket. It's not lightweight at all. Very warm! I can confirm that the current model now has the interior pocket (with snap closure) mentioned in another review's response. I think the cuffs could be just a little more snug fitting but that's the only thing I'd change. I've worn the jacket in 30° temperatures so far and remained comfortably warm. I've tried on Alpha Industries MA-1 jackets and was very unhappy with the fit but this one was perfect. There's also Buzz Rickson but the price on those is astronomical. For the price the Schott MA-1 seems like a very good buy. If I need another one or another color in the future I would go with Schott before any others. I ordered a size L and I'm 5'11, 195 lbs, average build.
I was looking for a flight jacket like I remember buying in the late 80s early 90s. All of the new brands are total trash. In 1988 an ma-1 cost about $100. Today a rothco is $60. You can imagine that quality is sacrificed for price. I searched and searched and. I actually bought a rothco, but the quality is so bad. This is the jacket I remember buying.! The inside is a shiny silky orange just like the old vietnam era jackets I remember getting. Worth every penny. This is the jacket you want! Dont think about it , get it!
Beautiful bomber. The fit is perfect. Glad I went with this brand. Quality is excellent.
I bought the coat to wear for a specific event and was expecting it to be a bit of a throwaway at that price. I received it today and I’m shocked. It feels really durable and will be much warmer than I expected. The size guide was bang on and it fits great. This is an incredible deal for such a quality piece. Very happy.
There are very few companies in whom you can place total trust in the quality of their products. Schott is one of them. You might look at the image of this jacket and think it's a nice, light nylon jacket, but it is anything but. It's a really substantial piece of work that can function as an early winter jacket, even here in New England. Stylish and functional with a perfect fit, this is a bargain at $168.
Typically fabulous Schott product. Sized generously, use the sizing guide. Love it, period.
I tried Alpha. Tried Rag and bone Icon ver which has an ugly seam in middle of the back. I tried even Buzz Rickson. All more $$. Returned them all. The Schott MA 1 bomber runs baggy. I wear a medium Schott 519 like a glove. I was swimming in the med bomber. I got black size small. The updated version has inside pocket on left. The jacket is thicker than other bombers too, so this might be good for late fall and winter at most in east coast. I can't imagine wearing this over 40 degrees f.
It is very very warm with even just a t shirt. They stuffed it with a lot of fill for insulation.
I have a military issued flight jacket that is really ravaged (still use it, good use vintage look) but it was time to get a new jacket. The Schott jacket still has the look and is high quality. It will be the jacket i use in wet conditions. Has a inner pocket for the phone and is warm to boot....
