What can I say about this Naval Peacoat? I absolutely love it! Nice and warm with the big buttons make it the best coat that I have ever bought. I know it will give me many years of great comfort and style that will last very long time. Job well done Schott!
Mine is a story of ... dog hair. And a fondness for a jacket I wore throughout my youth.
Until I got dogs.
Big dogs. Big, long-haired dogs. A German Shepherd & Collie mix. A Golden Retriever mix. A Newfoundland mix. A St. Bernard mix. Another Newfoundland. All of them perfect.
But you cannot wear a navy blue wool jacket with dogs like that.
Well, you can. But you quickly discover the truth of the old saying: Dog hair is not just a condiment; it's also a fashion accessory.
So, goodbye old friend.
I've had dogs and loved them far longer than I had that pea jacket. Far longer than I was young, too, for that matter. And I've never regretted that trade-off. Not even for a second. But I've always kind of wished blue wool didn't attract and show dog hair.
Then, late this past year, I thought, dog hair's never been a problem for my motorcycle leathers. And I wondered: Do they make pea jackets in leather?
And, of course, they do.
The pea jacket may be one of the most copied jacket styles on the planet, dating back through naval history to at least 1720 (according to Wikipedia). Perhaps second only to Schott's original "Perfecto" motorcycle jacket.
And some of the copies are more like my old friend than others.
And some of the leather variants are, I'm sure, better built and of better leather than others.
But this pea jacket is exactly like my old U.S. Navy original (U.S. 740N, Pea Jacket), except leather; and no coat of any style that I have worn (a lot: I ride motorcycles) is better built or of finer leather: supple, durable and beautiful.
I’m a 42 regular but returned it for the 40 regular and still can wear a sport jacket underneath. Looking forward to the leather breaking in! A coat forever and pass on to my boys to wear!
This is one of Schott's greatest works. To take an American icon, the American peacoat, and then recreate it using beautiful, high quality leather is....insane? unreal? gorgeous? amazing? YES - all of the above plus the indescribable that you really feel. The leather, quality of construction, beautiful diamond pleated nylon lining, and all the details that set Schott apart from the crowd, are delivered in this jacket. Even the buttons with Schott's name etched is subtle, yet shows the care behind Schott's creations. The sizing is very true to size for whatever you normally wear, and the fit is what I would call Classic. I am 6' 170 average and the Large fits perfectly. If you have a slender/slim build, this jacket may be a little big - would recommend the 740C or 751 which are not leather. Wow! Wow!!! I can't stop saying wow!
This is a great jacket, the quality and weight of the leather are both great. I wanted a warm winter coat that would stand up to cold winters in Sweden. I think this jacket would do the job.
After discussing with Schott support, I ordered a 38". I take a regular 38" jacket and would generally by a medium. I have had to return it as it was way too big across the board. I did discuss sizing with support and it seemed like a 38 would be right but I suspect that a 34 is what would actually be a better fit. Due to high international postage costs, I will hold off ordering a smaller size replacement until I can try one on in person when I am in NY later in the year.
If the jacket was a good fit it would have been an easy 5 stars.
Classic iconic coat. Thick soft warm.
My coat is fabulous and I love the warmth and the style of it the design is second to none Schott designers hit this one out of the park one of my best purchases ever I’m a customer for life
Nicely made and the leather is of good quality. I would have gotten the size completely wrong if I didn't have the chance to visit the new store in San Francisco. They didn't have the coat there but pointed out that it has a similar fit as the 740 wool pea coat, which I could try on. While I go with a size 50 in other Schott Jackets, here a size 46 was already plenty enough. I miss the slit in the lower back a bit for style, but all in all I love the coat. Great for tall people (6 feet 2 and 225lbs).
This is THE nicest leather pea coat I've ever owned. The leather is so soft, yet heavy-weight. The stitching is flawless and I love it. Fits perfectly. Two thumbs up for this leather naval pea coat!
Thick, heavy, supple, smooth leather. Quality stitching throughout. Buttons sewn on to be used and not twist off. This is not inexpensive, but the high quality is there and worth the price. Fit is exactly as advertised. Shipping was incredibly prompt. This product and Schott's get a 5 star.
