I purchased a new/dead stock 184 sm in Dark Brown. Jacket is gorgeous, but it was a little dry. So I reached out to one of Schott's resident Angels, Gail. If you ever have a question she's your gal. Anyway Gail explained to me that the jacket may have been stored in plastic thereby not allowing the leather to breathe. She recommended I order The Otter wax leather care kit, and then requested that I get back to her. So Gail this one's for you. Before I did anything I the jacket squeaked every time i moved. I first wiped the jacket down with a lint free cloth, just water. Then I used the saddle soap to clean it, even though it was unused the jacket was made in 1987 so i figured wiping it down with saddle sop wouldn't hurt. Then I applied a coat of Otter wax leather salve, and hung it up for a few days. After I was sure it was dry, I buffed it with the lint free cloth included. It looks great, and no more squeak!. Tomorrow I'm going to apply a coat Of Otter wax leather OIL just to make sure its got all the hydration it needs. I don't think its critical that I do this, the leather salve worked really well, but I don't believe it'll hurt to put a coat of oil on it to hydrate and condition this beautiful jacket and make sure that its going to break in properly.
