I’ve always been a denim enthusiast, and most leather jackets I’ve owned felt more like obligatory wardrobe variation than something I truly connected with. I chose this Horween Type II because it’s built on a jean jacket framework, but executed in a genuinely substantial and uncommon material.
The color is hauntingly beautiful and should complement virtually any jean wash. I’ve read that as it breaks in, the color develops into a complex but subdued range of tones, giving it an even more unique and versatile look.
If you’re familiar with heavyweight raw denim (21–25oz), the break-in experience here feels very familiar. The Horween horsehide is stiff and substantial at first, but it should soften and mold with wear rather than feeling restrictive. This isn’t a fragile or fashion-forward leather — it feels closer to equipment than a garment, and that’s a compliment.
Within the first few minutes of wearing it, I knew this jacket was something special and one that should age well with me for the rest of my life.
Unbelievable coat and the pictures don’t do it justice. The leather is perfect and the color is breathtaking, and the fit is on point. I am 215, 6ft tall, with a 46/47 inch chest and the xxl wears like it was custom made for me. My only call out is that the leather is stiff so the buttons are a little tricky to secure at the moment; but I expect they will get easier as I break it in. It’s not an inexpensive jacket, but once you try it on you will understand why.
This might be the most beautiful jacket ever made, it’s comfortable right out of the box & everything about it is awesome. I really can’t say one bad thing. 5’10” 225 lbs, stocky weight lifter build, I wear a XXL.
