Lightweight Fitted Cowhide Motorcycle Jacket

STYLE: 626

(56)
Our customers asked for a lighter, trimmer asymmetrical leather biker jacket and we answered with the Perfecto® model 626. As easygoing as a second skin yet incredibly durable, this 26” long motorcycle jacket was designed for warmer weather riding or casual trouble—your choice.

COLOR

As with all Perfecto® leather jackets, Schott only uses the best, highest quality leather available. We hand-cut the leather panels from the same soft, chrome tanned, drum-dyed and practically indestructible cowhide leather as our other Perfecto® jackets, but the hide is slightly lighter in weight (2.5 to 3 ounces). This leather breathes well and breaks in quick and easy, and our time-honored tradition of tanning and processing ensures it will last many years without needing treatments or conditioners.

Schott designed the 626 without underarm footballs, allowing a tighter fit for that classic bold and streamlined look that looks good anywhere. For wind protection and added warmth the 626 features an asymmetrical main zipper, attached belt, zippered sleeve cuffs and a durable 100% cotton flannel lining sewn into the body of the jacket. The bi-swing back panels give you that extra range of motion so you won’t feel restrained in your jacket. The collar and shoulder epaulets are designed in the traditional 1940s style but the twist is that these epaulets have no stars. If you look closely at the snap down lapels, you will find that the snaps are custom embossed, another detail that shows how far we’ll go to construct jackets of unparalleled quality. Nickel plated brass hardware completes this timeless American-made classic that is built to last a lifetime.

    Features:

  • 26” length moto style jacket
  • Chrome tanned, drum dyed, light weight (2.5 – 3 oz.) cowhide leather

    Leather Type, Fit and Construction:

Schott NYC uses this semi aniline cowhide to help your leather jacket or “second skin” resist the elements. Motorcycle jackets need to be as tough as the people wearing them. You will enjoy the benefits of both stain resistance and added protection while riding on your classic motorbike or out on the town. For wind protection and added warmth the 626 features an attached belt, zippered sleeve cuffs and a durable 100% cotton flannel lining sewn into the body of the jacket. Nickel plated brass hardware complete this timeless American made classic that is built to last a lifetime.

In the same tradition used in the 50's, highly skilled workers hand-cut each panel for the 626. In keeping with their original custom style, Schott designed this jacket to fit tighter than most for that classic bold and streamlined look. We suggest you carefully check our sizing diagrams and measurements to determine best fit. The Schott Perfecto® Model #626 is proudly made in the U.S.A. Our customers know that the quality and construction of our jackets are unparalleled. From the heavyweight thread we use to the strong American hands that do the crafting. We build our leather motorcycle jackets to the same indestructible standards as the old style leather medicine balls. One-hundred plus years of being the best is your assurance that Schott Brothers stands behind every jacket we make.

    History:

The three pocket design of the Schott Perfecto® One Star dates back to the late 1940's. In those days this leather motorcycle jacket was referred to as just “Perfecto®” or “Beck model 999” (manufactured by Schott). The small coin flap pocket started out as a custom option offered in the early 50's. By 1955 this coin pocket became a standard feature of this biker-style jacket known as “the Perfecto® One Star".

Considered to be the best motorcycle jacket it caught the mainstream public's attention after Marlon Brando epitomized the coolest of cool, wearing his Perfecto® in that iconic classic film “The Wild One”. Originally referred to as "the One Star", it was officially banned from schools across the US for an entire year in the mid 50’s. Some believe this action served to make the Schott Perfecto® even more desirable to America’s young renegades with their “Wild One” tendencies. School Boards wanted to burn it and youthful rebels saved every penny to buy one. At the time, this jacket retailed for close to $50 which amounted to roughly 100 hours of work if you were a gas station attendant making fifty cents an hour!

The customized asymmetrical leather motorcycle jacket worn by Brando became the must-have anti-establishment symbol for 1950’s youth. The orders skyrocketed for this leather jacket causing Irving Schott and his son Mel to increase their workforce and expand the Schott factory. By the mid 1960’s the Perfecto® mens jackets had also caught on with the emerging rock n roll movement. Once again, due to increasing sales, Schott had grown out of their current factory on King Street in Perth Amboy, NJ. A few new factories later and still in New Jersey, Schott proudly continues this iconic American classic motorcycle jacket for the wild side in all of us.

    GREAT JACKET

The leather used to make the jacket is absolutely stunning, soft and overall not heavy on the shoulders. Even the collar feels soft and warm against the neck and easily bends around your neck, instead of trying to push your neck forwards like some of the really heavyweight leather jackets. The cut and design is wonderful, as some who is tall and a narrow cut it fits really well with plenty of room to move. Without a huge unwanted gut, that seems to be built into so many jackets once the size goes over medium.
The only room for improvement would be using a natural material to line inside the sleeves, the polyester lining while durable leaves much to be desired.

    LET ME TELL YOU…

At 6’7, 290lbs and muscular build, finding things that fit is not easy. I was looking for a 33rd birthday present for myself and after months of ordering online and returning jackets from other brands, I finally went to a Schott retailer in Vancouver. He put me in a 118, and I couldn’t wait for it to get here. Alas, there was a 4 month back order so he advised me to contact Schott directly and see if anything else might fit. I dug the 626 and reached out to Schott to see if it would fit. Gail and Jerri promptly sent me the sizing sheet, I compared measurements and everything seemed a go. So I placed an order and crossed my fingers…

Today, literally 4 days after I placed my order, I got my XXL 626 in the mail. It fits like a glove, best jacket I have ever owned. I was just at the gas station in this beast of a jacket and a girl pulled me aside and muttered: “You’re the kind of guy who knows exactly who he is”… and if that doesn’t sell you on this jacket, I don’t know what will.

    Thanks Schott, customer for life.

I have had several leather jackets before ( the cheap ones). For some reason, there is always something off. I do not feel confident wearing it. So I decided to try the schott 626. It is expensive but I figure I can always return it if I did not like it. The gamble paid off. The jacket is true to size. Fits comfortable and the confidence in wearing it is there. This one is a keeper. Finally, I am done looking around. This jacket may be expensive, but this will last forever. It is a no brainer,

This is a great jacket, however the sleeves were too long for me.
I ordered an XL, whcih fit great in the length of the jacket
However the sleeves covered my hands.
I wear a 36inch sleeve in dress shirts, so I thought i'd be ok..
Unfortunately, i had to return it

    THE BEST PERFECTO BIKER JACKET

My journey to get this perfect Perfecto has been a long one.

I first purchased the 519 via Revolve in the US in a L (as per Schott's recommendation for a 6'3" tall, 97kg guy). I really liked the jacket, but didn't like the stars on the epaulets, and the 1 ½” diamond 3oz polyfill insulated fixed quilt body liner is too limiting in Australia. Thanks to Revolve's wonderful free shipping and free returns, I was able to return this jacket for a full refund.

After further help from Jerri at Schott, I decided to go for the 626 (direct from Schott) thanks to these advantages over the 519:

    1. Similar cut to the 519 (although shorter sleeves and shorter body length, both which suit me better)
    2. No epaulets stars
    3. Shinier leather than on the 519
    4. Snap button on the upper collar
    5. 100% cotton flannel lining which makes the jacket more wearable all year round in Australia (Geelong, VIC.)

Like I said, this is the perfect Perfecto! It looks great and it feels great on! I can't wait to wear it.

Just be aware that Australian customs will sting you approximately an extra $269.24 because the jacket is over AU$1000, so factor that cost in. For me it was still well worth it!

    Thanks Schott.

A GREAT CLASSIC LIGHT WEIGHT JACKET, BUT WITH AN OKAY FIT

    Published: Wed, 10/13/2021 by Frank

This is a great light weight jacket that is well suited for both riding and casual wear. Though I wouldn't say it is "fitted" in the traditional sense, but is probably more fitted than their other jackets. I still found it rather boxy on my athletic build. I have a 41 inch chest and 33 inch waist and found lots of room in the midsection and a bit tight in the chest, armpits, sleeves and forearms. The size chart had me at a medium which is what I got, though the fit guide suggested a small that was in no way acceptable. That being said, as with all good leather, there is some eventual break in though I think I'd prefer it with a better taper and more room in the upper section, it would go a long way to make the jacket look more flattering. These style jackets don't always look so good on people who are anything but super skinny. With my athletic build these jackets can really make my midsection swell, but this isn't has bad as some other jackets I guess. As far as motorcycle riding, its actually quite excellent. Its great for my neutral riding position. The jacket vents incredibly well, better than a lot other jackets on the market, with the low opening in front and the loose sleeves you get plenty of air flow going into the jacket and out the back. I can wear it in as hot of weather as 85°f. When the weather gets cold you can unbutton the collar and zip up the front all the way up. Just synch down the belt and zip the sleeves up and you're good to go. As with all cold weather gear its more about layering than anything else and this is a decent outer shell, I've worn this on the highway at about 50° f with no problems. With heated gear you could go colder. That being said this is more a warm weather jacket than a cool one.

    USED 626

Published: Tue, 10/12/2021 by Sergio Bures

I was looking to buy this jacket new and came across a used brown one in excellent condition. It is the older version of the 626 (pre 2014) before they changed the model and added bi-swing back and removed the stars on the epaulettes.
I am 5'10, 168 pounds and the Medium fits like a glove. My twin must have been wearing it all these years. The medium cowhide leather is pebbled, not smooth and is substantial but has a soft hand. It's a great jacket pre or post 2014.
