Classic B-3 Sheepskin Leather Bomber Jacket

Classic B-3 Sheepskin Leather Bomber Jacket

This B-3 is the classic WWII sheepskin leather "Bomber" jacket.

B-17s and B-24s were not pressurized and the unheated cabins got awfully cold at altitude. This sheepskin jacket kept our bomber crews warm during their perilous missions in the skies over Europe.

The B-3 bomber jacket is clearly a winner in both warmth and style. Even non-aviators like Gen. George Patton chose to wear a specially-modified version of the B-3 (instead of the standard tanker's jacket). You too can rely on this classic heavyweight shearling to keep you warm on the coldest winter day, and you can count on its enduring style to survive the fickle trends of fashion!

So Ive been wanting this jacket for the last two years and I just finally pulled the trigger on it last week. I love this jacket! The shearling is so plush and not only is it warm but I don't feel wind chill! It's awesome. I'm also pleasantly surprised because I thought that this jacket would be a lot heavier than it is judging by the images online. The craftsmanship is absolutely spectacular. I went with the brown and gold because all of the b3 jackets that I've seen are the brown and white. Just wanted to be a little different and I am glad I went with that decision because I get compliments on this jacket all day long whenever people see me in it.

I love this jacket. Perfect size, perfectly warm, stunning style. Not unpleasant: now and then friendly interested glances from my fellow citizens.
Regarding the size: My height is 174 cm, my weight 70 kg (male). Size 36 fits very good. Size 34 would be probably too small.
Good to know: I ordered on Tuesday, and received the jacket two days later on Thursday.
I ordered the jacket from Berlin/Germany.

Coat is as authentic as you are likely to find. I have a 48 inch chest, broad shoulders and ordered a size 48. It fits great with no binding of movement. The white shearling is a little more yellow than the picture but that just means it won’t be as hard to keep clean. Construction seems top notch and the zipper is built like a tank. Very warm, but not as hot as I was afraid it might be. I live in Georgia so that’s a big plus. This is the last coat you will need to buy, so be good to yourself and just do it!!

This jacket symbolizes Schott's high quality standards and meets all expectations; superior materials -- sheepskins, buckles, zipper, solid stitching and seams, perfect fit...I'm 6 feet, 44 chest, 34 waist.

When I was younger I bought a Schott Motorcycle jacket second hand in the village, i gave it away when I got older. I didn’t know what I gave away till years later and I’ve always regretted that decision (what’s funny is I kept a Guess motorcycle jacket instead because I paid full price for it. It was/is a really nice jacket but it was/is a jacket of its time with wide upper arms that tapered at the end... basically nothing I would wear this day and age).

I was interested in buying a shearling bomber and did a bit of research and all roads kept leading back to Schott. The jacket is very pricey but I also knew well made (and made in the USA) and for something that would last a very long time, it would be worth it. I was reticent to buy online because I wanted it to fit perfectly (i have a number of winter coats/jackets so I didn’t need it to fit well enough with different layers of clothing). All I intended to wear under it would be at most an undershirt and a thin merino sweater. Seeing as I live in NYC I decided to go to Schott’s flagship store on Elizabeth Street and see how a variety of jackets would fit me before actually buying and also getting a good sense of what size to get online regardless of how the jacket is sized. I wanted to see how small/medium would fit (I’m a 38 and that fits nice and snug without being too tight). For the bomber the 38 fit as it should..... perfect. I tried on the buffalo trucker jacket (medium was the right fit) and knew that is something I will need to pick up at a later date but in my rush I forgot to try on a few motorcycle jackets to see which one I should get for when the weather warms up.... I guess that means I need to take another trip to Elizabeth Street.

Anyway after going to Schott’s main store and trying the classic bomber (257S) in black and and brown (pretty disappointed that they didn’t have the 2B3 bomber in Espresso in stock because I really wanted to see how that fit and looked and unlike the 257 that sizes 38, 40, etc, it runs S, M, L . I decided to get it in black...... and it looks badass. It is unbelievably warm, like a getting a perpetual hug.... while looking badass. I wore it with just a Henley in 13 degree weather and felt absolutely nothing. What this long meandering rant is getting at is this jacket is totally worth it and Schott makes a compelling case for why they charge such a high premium.

I've wanted this jacket for 10 years and finally purchased it a few weeks ago and couldn't be happier. The jacket is by far the warmest I've ever had and look forward to the many years it will serve me working in NY Harbor.
