I’ve had many leather jackets, but have always been looking for the one to keep for decades: I think I’ve found it. Perfect all around: size, color, timeless style, fit (I’m 5’9” 160lb athletic slim, got size S that fits nicely over a Tee and with a sweater as well). Although I’m a rider, I won’t wear it on a bike as I don’t want to ruin it if a fall off, it’s that nice, but I’ll wear the heck out of it as it gets a little colder otherwise.
I’ve been through many leather jackets, searching for the perfect one that instantly feels right and stays right for a long time. I’m certain I’ve found the one!
I’ve got the luggage color, which is unusual for me as I always go with black, glad I did, awesome color. Got size S, I’m 5’9 at about 155 lb athletic slim - it fits perfect over a Tee and even with a sweater/scarf.
I bought this jacket a few months ago from an Italian outlet as buying direct from Schott and getting it shipped to Ireland always results in a sting in the tail from everyone's favourite customs agency. I've always bought direct from Schott so I speak facts! In the past I've always gone for the classic Perfecto biker jackets but as I'm getting older I still wanted something that oozes 1950s/Western combined so this hidden gem hits the target. I don't ride a bike - I just like to look cool hahaha. My Perfecto 613S has been retired and this jacket is its successor! It's already taking on a gorgeous patina on the sleeves and it smells gorgeous too. A perfect wardrobe staple for a rockabilly guy who left his 20s behind a long time ago.
My previous review is below. I liked this 596 jacket so much that I bought it in black. Now I have two - but pulling the collar off the brown on means I can pretend it’s a totally different jacket style. I like the cut and design of this 596 and I struggled with finding the right Perfecto. I tried and sent back a couple of them - the PER62 and the 613S. I finally decided to switch direction and I am happy I did. The 596 looks less “biker” - which is okay since I don’t ride! Thanks to Jerri and everyone at Schott for helping with my returns and orders. I now have 13 Schott leather jackets… yep, 13! And a bunch of sweaters, CPO shirts, other jackets, etc. Go SCHOTT Go!
I just unpacked my 596 Rancher Jacket in the luggage colour. It blew me away. Absolutely beautiful craftsmanship, immaculate finish and attention to detail. From the stunning soft, heavy and beautifully textured leather to the lining and well thought out transitions between the materials. One can see, the wealth of knowledge, experience and love which went into this Masterpiece. I am an Architect working with an award winning team, and I am not easily impressed, but this jacket is perfect.
I always wanted to own a jacket like this. I researched and learned about legendary Schott. However, this jacket exceed my expectations,. Well done, bravo! This is already my favourite and probably will always be, till it will pass on to my son. Thank you!
This is a really nice jacket. The leather quality of the cowhide is great and the zipper/snaps all seem really sturdy and high quality. The look of it with and without the sheep collar is great. I am very happy with my purchase.
I ordered the brown "luggage" color in a size S. I am 6 ft tall and 175 lbs with a slim athletic build. The size small fits me perfectly with a somewhat slim fit, but still comfortable and easy to move which is exactly what I was looking for.
I ordered a medium to try as well but returned it. It was too big for me but I could see it fitting if the wearer had a stockier build through the chest and shoulders.
Cool jacket. Something different than the Perfecto asymmetrical motorcycle jacket that Schott is best known for. This looks nice with or without the collar on. The brown IS the better color in this jacket, in my opinion and that’s what I bought. A keeper for sure. Only wish is that it was a bit longer. But otherwise it’s great. For reference, I’m 6 ft tall, 205 lbs, wear a 44L suit / sport coat.
This is a well constructed, stylish addition to my wardrobe. It absolutely pops with the right Stetson hat and a pair of boots. I have several Schott jackets and this one is my favorite! Thanks Schott for the Southern flair! BTW 6’ 185# and L fits great.
Ever purchase something that so greatly exceeds your expectations it instantly becomes one of your top 5 favorite things you can not live without?
I could probably write a small book about this jacket but I'll keep this review brief; the Schott 596 "Rancher" has to be the best kept secret of the Schott line-up. It is built with the classic Schott quality we all expect and demand from the price point, yes, but this is truly an heirloom piece. I expect it to last at least my lifetime, and my son will probably get a few decades out of it as well (and he is 5 currently).
The jacket is heavy like a cowhide jacket should be, but not to the point it weights you down. The leather is stiff but supple and should break in with a fantastic patina over time. I love the flannel lining of the interior of the jacket, which feels like your favorite shirt or blanket.
The sheep collar is a big reason I chose this jacket, and why I suspect most people are looking at this particular style. It's absolutely wonderful- incredibly warm, hugging the back and side of your neck without being restrictive. It pops off easily with 6 snaps, and I was beyond impressed that the entire removeable collar is also top grain leather, even the inside, and the snap attachment points.
With the sheep collar removed this jacket has an entirely different look, making it much more "dressy" like a delivery jacket. Truly two jackets in one. My only gripe here is the snap for the inside center of the collar leaves an exposed metal button on the inside of the jacket that touches the back of my neck. On a cold morning I can feel it. Would be nice if there was a piece of the flannel lining that covered this, but ultimately it is not a big deal.
For fit, I'm 6'6" 215lbs athletic taper, and the Large fits me exceptionally well, if not a little baggy in the belly but great around the chest. For someone of my height, the Schott "fit finder" will tell me nothing fits, but I found this to be in the range of acceptable. The length hits right about my hips but the sleeves are a touch short when I reach my arms, like driving, for example. This is pretty common for me so something I am used to. I pulled in the side buckles to the tightest setting to shore up the bagginess of the belly and it fits like a nice tailored jacket without being restrictive.
I was on the fence about this jacket for a while but ultimately very happy I pulled the trigger. Also, incredibly fast shipping- ordered on a Monday and received in Colorado on a Thursday! Thank you, Schott!
Quality, Fit and Style! I cannot say how much I love this jacket. Perfect for the cool fall outings, and great to move into spring with the removable collar.
