Retired Navy aviation here. This is an exceptional jacket. Of much higher quality than my G1. Is a modern interpretation of an military fliers jacket. So, I no longer get questions about how many bombs I dropped, or whether I wear the Navy Cross, or how many combat hours, or how many Air Medals.
No doubt. This is a serious, very high quality jacket. Not one stitch out of place. The leather is exquisite and uniform. The jacket is waxed, so it is not shiny. The feel and smell are incredibly luxurious. It is a rugged jacket. It is bullet proof. The knit cuffs and waist are durable and uniform high quality.
The jacket is 2 oz: their lightest. It is NOT light like a suede jacket. It feels substantial, and only slightly lighter than my G1 ( goat skin). It is the perfect fall jacket with a long sleeve shirt, and spring jacket with a short sleeve shirt. Compared to my G1 it is only slightly lighter.
It is SLIM fit. I am a 15.5/33 shirt in slim fit, 147 libs, men's 39 short suit, 39.5 chest, 31 waist (drop of 8 inches) I am long waisted. Jacket is pleasantly tight in arms, and falls just below my belt line. Perfect length. Slightly tight in chest, but I can feel that the leather will stretch so slightly as to be a glove fit.
The best part of the jacket is that it is neither a play on military status or on young, edgy, anti-establishment kids. I am 63.5 years old, and the jacket has a feel and look to it that complements my age.
I am neither a young rebel, or an old codger reliving his glory days in the Navy. All in all, a superb purchase, and wonderfully comfortable, and classy, and just plain good looking.
One warning: if you wear this jacket in your stated size, and are not slim, it will not fit.
And one final note. The authentic G1 is made out of lousy, goatskin, and feels sort of like plastic. Make no doubt, this jacket feels very high quality, and very well made. Worth every single penny for an old guy.
And if you are thinking about getting an authentic G1 and wearing it with civvies, unless you are under 30 and trim, you will look really goofy in it. No way around it, since it is a distinctly military piece of gear. Really no different than wearing camo gear with black shoes.
My 2nd Schott jacket purchase. Because of Denise’s research and recommendation, I bought one size up from my first purchase, which was an M. Using my email address, Denise retrieved stats for my fist purchase and compared them to the stats for this jacket and told me an M in my earlier purchase would translate to an L for this jacket. I like the incredible touch and slight vintage treatment and the leather under the flaps and in the slant pockets.
