I'm 62 years old. This is the first engineer boot I have worn that is actually comfortable but still very functional. And it looks good too. I wore engineer boots most of my life, steel toes for work and planes toes for riding, Chippewas. While they were certainly good boots they were never real comfortable and as I get older my feet can tell the difference. Now I could wear engineer boots again they are that comfortable.
Great looking boots and getting extremely hard to find these days. I went with a half inch size down and they fit me perfectly.
I ordered them 1/2 size smaller than my usual size and the seem to be just right. I've had them for 2 days and they arrived 2 days after I ordered them, wall packaged and safely delivered. The color is beautiful & the leather is supple on the shafts and supportive around the foot. They are well made but the true test of that will be determined over time. I will see how they conform once they break in - and by no means are they unpleasant to wear, but they will mold themselves to me with use. The sole is Vibram and it will be durable, if they are like any of the others I own with the Vibram sole. Still, they seem shaped a bit odd - as you can see in the photo, the sole at the toe doesn't contact the ground. I'm not sure of the reason, or if that will change with break-in. Someone else mentioned a preference for a Cuban heel, which these don't have. In general, I also like the Cuban heel, but these seem to be fine and I think they will be comfortable and adequate. I like the contrast the light upper part of the sole gives to the boot. If you are on the fence, I would recommend them and if you ride a motorcycle, as I do, or just like the style, I do think you will be satisfied. Quality, American - made craftsmanship is hard to come by, but these boots are fine examples of it.
These boots fit perfectly
They scream quality absolutely awesome
Thanks to the customer support I chose the correct size, these boots fit me like a glove. The leather is soft and pleasant. Just one flaw, don't use the back loop, the strap, to help you put your foot in because it breaks easily.
Just what I was looking for…
Minimal heel is ideal for a confident foot plant, while riding the motorcycle.
Unmistakable quality, and timeless styling. Classic all the way. Exactly what I demand in pretty much everything I buy.
These reviews really helped me out with the sizing. I reluctantly ordered an 11, and I’m very glad I did. I normally wear and 11.5 or 12, depending on the shoe. In a Nike for example, I’m a solid 12. A few if the reviews suggested going a full size down, which is what I did.
They’re absolutely perfect, with a little wiggle room and it’ll be no problem wearing thicker socks should the need arise.
I don’t see any issues with break-in. I wore them for a couple hours right after receiving them, and I could have easily gone all day.
The leather is flawless, absolutely beautiful craftsmanship. And just enough detail to nail down authenticity.
The first scuff will be the hardest to deal with, but it’s going to happen. They’ll develop character for sure, as they get worn in. I can hardly wait !
Btw I own an incredible Schott wool peacoat I purchased last year, and a very cool vintage leather jacket I’ve owned for 30 years. Both are prized possessions.
I’d love to add a Perfecto to the stable, but I’d probably have to win it in a sweepstakes or something, for that to happen.
Thanks for putting out great products, for discerning consumers.
Black BT54 Review:
If you are already familiar with engineer boots, then you know how rare it is to find a high-quality, handcrafted, made in the USA boot without paying next months rent. Schott has done us boot junkies a real favor by manufacturing these and taking the time to handcraft these… and it’s obvious they are.
Super comfortable, perfect size that look great with slim or straight cut denim and have a low heel for a more athletic feel. With that said, if you’re used to having more of a heel then these might take some getting used to but for those looking to easily transition between your New Balance and a boot, these are where it’s at. Also, Schott’s Customer Service is excellent. Having to exchange for the right size they ensured my satisfaction without issue and I couldn’t have asked for more.
As for sizing, I wear a 10 in New Balance and Vans but found I’m an 8 1/2 with these. I would’ve been alright with a 9 but I wanted a more snug fit. These run similar to 1000 Miles or Iron Rangers. If you have a wider foot then maybe only try a half size down since these are slightly narrow.
All in all I’m super happy with these boots. Stylish, rare, well constructed, and a fraction of the cost I’d pay else were at this quality and will only raise in value if Schott decides to discontinue these. I’m definitely gonna grab these in brown too, “Crazy Horse” lol they look great! I’ve been a long time subscriber of this company considering I still wear my dads Schott jacket from when he was a teenager and got his first bike and I wore it when I was a teenager and got my first bike but my go-to is of course my 626, classic style that just works and the quality certainly has not changed. Thankfully.
Thanks Schott! Your guys rock!
I wanted these boots purely for fashion purposes- I don't ride. These boots totally fit the bill. They look cool and with every wear they get a bit more broken in. DO get a half size down. I am a 10 in Visvim but a 9.5 in Converse/Nike- they fit perfect and don't have ridiculous room in the toe. I already get compliments from friends AND strangers. I tied some bandanas on them for the OC punk look.
Schott won't let you down. These look rugged and tough. I hope they come out with a black sole version too.
Boots are top quality. The fit is very true to size. The customer service experience was excellent. The Schott representative addressed my numerous questions promptly and accurately.
I’ve been looking for some high quality, great looking engineer boots for awhile. When I saw that Schott was selling their own engineer boots, I knew they would be exactly what I was looking for. The price is very reasonable for the quality of these boots. These boots look and feel awesome right out of the box. The sizing is half down from my casual shoes (eg. running shoes) but matches to my actual brannock device size. Highly recommend these boots!
