On the positive side, I like the quality and overall look of these boots. It’s hard to find engineer boots in brown so I was excited to get these. However, after wearing them for a few months, I started noticing a strong smell similar to ammonia or cat urine after wearing the boots all day. (I do not own a cat.) I own quite a few pairs of boots and rarely wear one pair more than two or three times in a week. Just in case it was some sort of fungal problem, I stopped wearing them for a many months and tried anti fungal treatments. After I started wearing the boots again, the problem quickly returned. It’s a very strong smell and it’s bad enough that I’ve stopped wearing the boots
Looking around on the Internet, I see that people have reported a similar issue from a number of shoe companies. Apparently it has something to do with components in the insole breaking down and creating ammonia. I tried contacting customer service and they said they had never heard of this happening with these boots. If you do buy them, I highly recommend reaching out and asking them if they are still using components that cause this problem. I would also wear them as much as possible during the return period see if it happens to you as well.
Response from Schott NYC: Leather and insole materials can sometimes react differently depending on environmental factors, wear conditions, bacteria, and storage, but this is not a typical occurrence. If any customers ever experience concerns with their footwear, we encourage them to reach out to our customer service team so we can assist with a resolution.
First off let me say I had to size down from and 11.5 shoe/sneaker size to a 10.5 for these engineer boots. I sent them back and got the smaller size and they fit great going down the full size. The leather quality on these boots is very nice. The boots are well made and my only complaint is that some of the
sole stitching and boot stitching is a little wonky and the sole sanding is off on a few spots. Overall for the price of these boots compared to other more well know companies these stand up pretty well and I would suggest picking up a pair if this is the style of boot you are looking for..
I'm really happy I found these, they are excellent and less expensive than other brands but the quality is magnificent, he says they are better than other American brands he has tried. Thank you so much for these beautiful boots. Such a win!!!!
These boots fit great right out of the box (half size smaller than sneakers). They look excellent, good quality inside and out. The souls are the best with a rider in mind, easy to shift gears. I just need to wear and break-in. Although in this Texas heat they are too hot. (August) The price is good for this quality of boot and I would recommend and buy again.
I have them in the black and crazy horse colors. They do run 1/2 size to big. So called them got the return label no questions or problems at all. Customer service is awesome! Next is the one in olive color. Looks nice! I ride my Harley in them and perfect riding boots. Compliments everywhere I go either on the bike or just wearing them out. Highly recommended. đź‘Ť
Awesome boot. Good thick leather for riding a motorcycle but lighter than many other engineer boots. A little tight across the top of the foot close to the ankle, but are getting a little stretch at the shoe repair shop. Schott products are well made and made in the USA!
Two leather jackets and a vest from Schott are testament to a well made product and will probably purchase more in the future…
I just bought Crazy Horse engineer boots. These boots are perfect in stitching, construction, and color. They’re very comfortable right away and very classic. I ordered size 10 (most brands of engineer boots run a little large in the vamp). I wear size 10.5 dress shoes, D width. I also own Schott black engineer boots size 10 in addition to Schott black harness boots in size 10.5. I also own jackets 141 and 118 in size 44. I do a lot of Harley riding living in the Pacific Northwest, USA. Being sure footed on paved mountain routes is necessary for me. Schott NYC in my opinion excels in being committed to their customer's detailed needs. They’ve proven it to me five times now.
Bought these because it stated made in the USA and they were under $700, the cheapest or less expensive price I could find for these types of boots. It took about 2 weeks to get used to my feet and started to feel comfortable. I started off slow, wearing every other day. Then for the 2nd week every day. They seem very well made and they look awesome. My only complaint is the sole. It need to be a little more substantial, maybe a lug type or just a thicker type of sole.
Great Boot!!!
Dave
Very happy with purchase. Boots arrived quickly and fit great! I did order a half size smaller like it said to do. Normally wear a size 10 ordered size 9 1/2 and fit great.
Perfect boots. Comfortable right out of the box. Schott quality totally. The price is definitely right. I liked them so much, I bought a pair in brown also. American made with American leather. Jerri Reyes of Schott made the whole transaction with grace and ease. Definitely buy a 1/2 size smaller than what you typically wear. You will not be disappointed in these boots!
