UPDATE:
I received the jacket today and it is too tight. I will need to find
another jacket in a size 44. If I wanted to get the closest thing to a Brando
jacket from the Wild One, what would you suggest that I look for?
The movie was made in 1953, so an early 1950's jacket should be close, right.
I tried Ghost Motor Clothes for a genuine vintage piece and I can no longer find
their site. Cragg said that they were updating the site soon, but it seems to
have vanished.
I am in no hurry, but there have been some discrepancies between some of the
jackets I have seen and I am not sure if each is unique - for example, the star
placing on the epaulettes - or the pattern has changed slightly. (Note that
Brando's jacket had the star virtually in the middle of the
epaulettes.)

Dear Rick, Just a note on the sizing, if you have been reading some blog
messages and have checked on our website you probably know that the older
jackets are cut smaller and you need to purchase the jacket one size larger then
your chest size. Even the jackets currently being produced that are cut on our
vinatge patterns need to be ordered one size larger. Also all motorcycle
jackets taper in at the waist, so your waist size also reflects the size you
would need if your waist is a little large. Gail

Thanks Gail. The jacket is all around tight, but mostly at the shoulders and
under the arms. I measured at a 41" chest, so I was thinking a 42 might work. It
didn't. LOL. Not too bad if worn open, but I should be able to zip it from time
to time.

Thanks Jett129, but I just won a jacket on ebay. Anything larger than a 44
will be too long for me. The 44 is pushing it... I really appreciate the offer
though.

Quick question on this. Are the jackets still made in 1.2 to 1.4mm thick 3-ounce leather? The jacket in the film has a very distinct look to it. It looks pretty thin!

Rick,
Forget about sizes with these jackets...they vary too much between style #, age and which client, Beck, Harley, Legendary, Americaya, etc. that the jacket was made for(Schott makes jackets for lots of other companies now and in the past) .
Take the jacket you just bought off e-bay and measure pit to pit (zip jacket, measure across, stretch jacket a little ,note if jacket has INSULATED lining or just thin satin lining) sleeve length (top of shoulder seam to cuff, outside) across back panel (note if jacket has bi-swing panel or not), across waist and length (collar seam to bottom hem)
Armed with this info you can then upsize or downsize in certain areas to get what will fit (also remember that your size will change depending on what you wear underneath). If the jacket is uninsulated this usually adds about a size to the chest measure (When you compare two jackets with the same pit to pit measure and only one has insulation. ) Ideally you want to try on a bunch of jackets and then find one that fits you well, take careful measures of it and then look for these measures when you pick out your next jacket. I hope this helps....

Rick, Perfectos are supposed to fit snug around the shoulders/chest. Brando
only wore a t-shirt under his jacket in the movie.

I still find it strangely interesting that Brando's jacket has
snaps on the collar, and rectangular, sharply pointed
shoulder epaulettes, with the stars in the middle.
Perfectos of that era ( I have one) had no collar snaps,
and the epaulettes tapered down to a rounded end, with the stars located closer
to the shoulder.
The buckle does resemble a Perfecto of that era,
though.
So, I've tallied 1 positive and 3 negatives that Brando's jacket
is an actual Perfecto, and not a cheaper knock-off of a Perfecto.

I think this was brought up before, many moons ago...I believe that either
Gail or Jason said that it was a Schott but made for the movie by theirs (or the
movie's) costume dept or that it was a "heavily modified" Schott. They get
alot of requests for Costume jackets and hey, if a movie producer is willing to
pay enough for a certain custom jacket, I'm sure that Schott is more than
willing to oblige. Money talks......

wore in the movie The Wild One. The stars on the epaulettes and the snaps on the
collar of his jacket were not original, but added to the jacket. As tim said.
the 618 was modified to look like a 613 for the movie. This would explain the
movie added snaps and the location of the stars.

Sorry. Correction to my last statement. Brando wore a 618 which had factory
collar snaps. The movie added the stars to make it look like the 613 one star.
If you want the "Brando" jacket, you would want a 618 and not a one star
613.

No, the 618 didn't have snaps on the collar in the 1950's. It was THE
SAME as the 613 except for the stars. Snaps on the 618 collar appeared in
the mid 1980's. On Brando's jacket the collar snaps and stars were added. Schott
NYC make custom jackets now, I'm pretty sure they could make a Brando
replica...
