Navy Pea coats

I am 30 year Navy Vet and have had much experiance with the Pea coat since ww2. I read some squastions on quality of Schotts Coats and Kersey Wool verses Melton wool.

I think Thta Schotts answered it pretty well how ever I will add my comment for those that may want first had knowledge.

The WW2 Pea coat was great, It had 10 buttons and a storm flap as well as the corduroy pockets. And they were 100% Kersey wool.

Now my Era was post ww2 and the coat made a change but still Naval Factroy contract, How ever they went to Melton wool Stll 100% and 8 buttons with six showing.

Then l;ater they again changed to 85% wool and 6 buttons, This was the coats my Three sons wore in their tours.

I have seen many coats from other companies making claim that theres are Authenic or Vintage Navy but are far from it. I do see that Schotts is a very high quality Coat and very close to Original .

I am also a 22 year retired Quality Assurance Specialist for the Department of Defense  (DLA) and Know Quality. So if I would replace my old Pea coat I would most likely go with Schotts. But other than that always be BUYER BEWARE.

Thank you for your expertise from someone who is a Navy Vet and is very familiar with a true military issued peacoat. I believe we are the only manufacturer that still makes the peacoat in the spec weight of 32 oz. wool. We also do not use plastic buttons on the jacket but once again the military spec polyurethane button. You can't beat a peacoat for warmth especially on a ship in very cold windy weather.
