Any product such as mink oil must be applied very spareingly, we also always suggest before use to do a test on the leather. It is also possible the product mixed with dirt on the leather or another product that may have  been applied to the leather that coated the leather. If the jacket is a used jacket you have purchased you really do not know what has already been applied to the jacket. My suggestion would be to have the jacket professionally cleaned, since you seem to have a problem with a sticky residue on the leather I would suggest Arrow Leathercare. This company specializes in restoration of jackets and their website is very informative on restoration.

IMHO, mink oil is only good for hunting boots.  Definitely not for jackets.  I'm with Gail on getting it a professional cleaning, but if thats not an economic option get two Lexol products;  leather cleaner and leather conditioner and clean the sticky off by yourself.  Or get a tin of saddle soap - follow the directions - and do it yourself.  Sticky sucks.
