Help! Ready To Buy 613US...But Where From?

I'm ready to pull the trigger on a Schott 613US..With Jerri's help I have chosen the size and just need to find the right place to order from. Seems like the only place I can order from is Rakuten or Amazon Japan. Jerri provided me with a list of retailers (I will post these below) in Japan, but only one had an email address. I emailed them over a week ago and I have not received a reply. I do not know anyone that speaks Japanese.. so I can't call them.

Another concern is using Rakuten or Amazon Japan. Some vendors are selling the jacket a lot cheaper than others and that makes me uncomfortable. I wouldn't want to end up with a knock off.

What should I do??? I've been waiting so long to have the cash to buy this jacket and I finally have it!

Here is the list of Japanese retailers I was givien by Jerri. I have no idea which one would be closest to Southern California. I'm sure shipping is going to be pricey.

Well, since Jerri gave you these retailers, I would think that Schott USA must 'talk' to them on some sort of a business regular basis.  Unless someone over here speaks Japanese, I'd think the common lingua would be English.  If so, can Jerri give you a contact?  Failing that, I'd give one of the Schott named stores a call.  My niece's company assigned her to their Tokyo plant for 6 months and she found that many Japanese speak English.  Much more common than the vice-versa.  Either would be a start.

Just be aware that if you purchase form Japan, the shipping cost will be pricey as it is based on weight and zip-code destination. You will also be responsible for Custom's tax and duty fees that will be collected upon delivery of shipment to you. You can check on what the current percentage rate will be charged on the dollar for US Customs as it can be variable.

Good luck with emailing Schott Japan.  I sent them an email months ago, then a follow up about a month ago.

I have never received a response.

Years ago I wanted to buy a Schott horsehide jacket that was only exported to Japan.  Similar to Djhak I was unsuccessful.  These Japan retailers were just not set up to sell to someone in the US.  Your best bet would be to ask the people you know if anyone plans to visit Japan.  Also, keep in mind that this style/pattern is very different from the jackets that are produced and sold to the US market.  You would be wise to ask the people at Schott if they can advise you on measures...I seem to recall getting one of these at the factory sale and the arms were cut on the tight side among other differences.  Since then Schott has expanded their M/C jacket line they offer in the US.  Many of their new styles like the 626 and the 519 were given what they call a "fashion cut". They are tight in the arms like the 613US but the leather is not the same.  From my experiences the jackets that Schott makes for Americaya tend to be spec'd out with very high grade leather.  Five or six years ago when I looked at the Rukutan website their jackets were hundreds of dollars more than similar styles offered in the US.  Since then Schott has raised their prices a couple times and this difference is not as noticeable.

Please let us know if you have any luck with Americaya/Rakutan/Ueno Shokai.

Did you try the global Rakutan website.  It looks like you may be able to place an order.  Also the 613us is on sale now for about $600   Check it! And let us know how you do...there are only a couple sizes left

Thanks for the replies everyone.  I think I'm going to call the stores and see if they will ship the jacket to me. If that's not possible I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and use Rakuten Global. Here are the links to some of the vendors I'm considering.

http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/arknets/item/10024607/

http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/messaround/item/so-03-01/

http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/p-mrt/item/sc7007/

The third link has the most reviews.. which kind of makes me trust it a little more. I've been reading a lot of Rakuten fraud stories and it makes me feel like it may be sketchy.  I will let you all know how it goes. If anyone has any additional info on the 613us or buying from Japan please post it. I looked on this forum for about two years without finding much info on buying Schott products from Japan... I hope this will help anyone in a similar position. I don't know why Schott doesn't make the 613us available in the USA... there seems to be a market for it.

Thanks Danimal for the information, I just ordered a 613us from http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/jalana/item/schott-613us-blk/

I'll let you know how this goes.

Note: Schott East has a website:http://schott-nyc.jp/ and on the website there are 4 online stores you can purchase from. One of the sites take you to http://www.rakuten.ne.jp/gold/schott/

From what I can tell they ship internationally.

Note: Size 32 seems pretty hard to find, did Schott stop making 613us in size 32?

Gail on 12/28/14 at 07:05 AM

We make all the sizes, our production is always based on what sizes have been ordered to be made. Our Japanese distributor always orders the small sizes as these are the most populat sizes in Japan. It is very possible they are just currently sold out in the size.

Thanks Gail! I'm really looking forward to getting my 613us and it all works out.

If anyone is interested I realized after the fact that you can order from Amazon.co.jp, an online retailer you can trust. I found this article explaining how. http://cdn.halcyonrealms.com/japan/how-to-order-from-amazon-japan-a-detailed-buying-guide/

Good luck to those considering ordering from Japan!

UPDATE:

12/27, I ordered the 613us.

12/28, recieved order confirmation from website

12/29, recieved 2nd website confirmation in Japanese

12/29, recieved address varification and total cost from seller.

12/30, recieved shipping via EMS 3-4 day delivery

12/31, Shipped via EMS delivery tracking!

1/02, Arrived at states, in customs for 2 hours released to USPS

1/02, Shipped to sorting center

1/03, DELIVERED!

Here's the odd part, the shipping from Tokyo, Japan to San Francisco, California is 4700 yen or $40 usd? Seems on the cheap side. Hope its a lucky mistake or I'm just getting a paper cut out of the 613us.

The jacket total cost so far is 86348 JPY (716.55 usd), 81648 JPY (677.48 usd), shipping is 4700 JPY (39usd).

Note: I went to the us customs page, and this may qualify America Goods Returning to US  duty free: https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/375/~/duty-on-u.s.-made-goods-returning-to-the-u.s.

Note:Also, I found this shipping proxy http://www.tenso.com/en/, you register for an account and they provide you a japanese address to their warehouse so you can have the item you purchased sent there. They then send to you and charge you a mimimal service charge and shipping cost.

I've never used this service before or know anyone who has, so caveat emptor.

I just read the American goods returning to the US duty free page... very cool! Thanks for the detailed update. Did you have to request a tracking number for the package? Let us know when you receive your paper cut out of the jacket. hahaha just kidding.

I'm excited for you to get the jacket... if you get it and all goes well, I'm ordering immediately! Thanks again Tribert73.

There's no mistaking on the brand, quality, and US flag that this is made in the USA...unless I'm getting a "Ken" doll size replica of the 613us.

Did you order from Jalana? Did you see the all the other jackets? I wish they still had this available: http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/granti/item/schtt-michael/?s-id=borderless_recommend_item_en

Good luck!
