absolute winner
I'm extremely skeptical and judgmental about anything I spend money on, but I had a very hard time finding much wrong with this coat, and a very easy time pulling the tag off to keep the coat.

Overall, this coat is nearly perfect in every aspect, from fit, fabric, to function. If you're not big on details and want an awesome, bad-a** looking coat that goes from work to the evening out anywhere seamlessly, don't worry, you will not be disappointed here. If you need convincing, read on.

For my descriptions, I bought the black color. I've gone into a lot of detail for sticklers for quality detail like myself.

For the fit, I'm 5'11", 160 lbs, 23 years old, with a very cut and athletic build, and very broad shoulders relative to my small waist size of 31" [hip about 30"]. My chest bust is about 37-38". The medium size fit my like a tailored coat. Because of my wide shoulders, larger chest, and continued growth at my younger age, I decided to opt for the large for extra room, which still fits unbelievably well with just enough room for a sweater or flannel underneath. Of particular note is the sharpness of the shoulder seam-cut, which combined with the nice tapering down the torso, really looks perfect.

To point out some great features, the material seems to be of very high quality, rivaling that of a favorite cashmere-wool blend overcoat that I have for work. The coat is very warm, and has a good bit of weight too it with adds to the quality in my opinion. The satin lining is also very thick, unlike a lot of the cheaper, paper-thin linings used on competing coats, and a very nice dark-steel blue color that adds a nice contrast to the black. The material in the pockets is a very heavy black, cotton-canvas material that feels very durable to the touch, unlike the common thin, polyester materials in competing coats that feel like your keys might shred them within days of buying the coat.

The tall mock neck looks very cool, with a very warm, thick, and comfortable rib-knit lining that adds extra warmth and robustness.

The buttons are glossy and have neat embossed, tan Schott logos on the rims. As other reviews have stated, the button stitching is a little thin, but re-attaching buttons is a very easy chore, and any decent dry cleaners worth their salt can reattach them easily for you if you don't know how. I've had no issue with them however.

Finally, the double zipper is a higher end, metal with a nice black coating on the teeth and runner. The runner pull has a firm feeling rubberized grip that adds to the quality feel of the whole item. The double zipper is troublesome if you like using the lower runner, but this is always the case with double zippers when they are new, and improves with use and wear.

Flaws: The ribbed-knit fabric on the inside of the mock neck seems to be a little mis-aligned (rib line parallelism) where it meets the zipper at the neck. You'll have trouble noticing it though. I work in engineering so my work is all in the details.

The thinner button stitching, but as already mentioned, don't worry about it. (add a few bucks to this operation Schott)

Any questions...haha

Simply Wonderful
This coat is amazing. It shipped quickly, the fit is just what I wanted, and it looks great. I cannot wait until it gets colder so I can start wearing it everyday. Very high quality, I see this coat keeping me warm for a few years to come. If you decide to buy this coat, you will not be disappointed. Thank you, Schott!

Great
After having my Schott 740 pea coat for 5 warm winters, I decided it was time to get a new nice coat. I unexpectedly came across this one at I shop that I didn't know sold Schott and really liked it. The cut is great and I love the collar with the built in scarf.

The only reasons I gave it 4 out of 5 stars are: the two-way zipper is sometimes a pain and the 24oz wool is noticeably cooler than the 32oz.

Bottom line: it's a good coat with a great look. On the coldest days though, I am sticking with my pea coat.

Wool Car coat
I've wanted a wool coat for some time and it was a toss up between this and the Peacoat. Based on my wife's feedback she suggested the car coat as I am a slimmer build and thought it would look less boxy on me. I ordered it end of day Tuesday and was wearing it on Thursday evening! I ordered a medium and it fits me like it was tailored I'm 5'8 150lb 30 inch waist. The area that I normally have issues with is the sleeves as I have very long arms and broad shoulders but as I said the coat fits perfectly. Craftsmanship is good from what I have seen the only area that is lacking is the zipper as other reviewers have mentioned.

Conspicuously good looking.
I bought the grey version of this coat last year and am quite pleased with it. The double collar is an excellent feature that provides useful warmth around the neck when zipped up and is something you don't see on most other wool car coats like this. Something I wanted to point out that was not apparent from the online photo of the grey version is that because the internal collar is black and because you will spend most of the time with the collar zipped open to your neck this has the effect of making the coat look like an abbreviated Chesterfield coat. (search Google images for Chesterfield coat) The result of wearing something that looks like a short Chesterfield coat around is that you may seem to be conspicuously well dressed. You may or may not want this depending on where you live. I've gotten more compliments on this coat than from any other item of clothing I've ever owned. This is not hyperbole and has made me more cautious about where and when I will wear this because half the people I meet look at me like I'm an English butler walking around the midwest.

Coat is lined in violet satin. Armholes are high and tight which again makes it feel like an English coat. Manufactured in Canada, not USA. Overall the construction is quite solid but examine all of your buttons. Mine looked to be rapidly machine sewed with simple loops and one fell off with a few days and several more were about to detach. I spent a couple hours reattaching all the buttons on the coat with thread shanks and have had no further issues.

Great Coat
Bought it for an unusually cold Seattle winter - very warm and really well made. Feels like it will be in the family for generations, and it looks great too. I'm 5'8" 160lbs and the Medium fits really well with enough room underneath for a thin sweater or blazer. Only issues are that the sleeves on me were about two inches too long (fixed by a good tailor in Seattle) and the zipper is a little finicky to connect, other than that, great!

Great coat!
I years ago owned a Navy peacoat by Schott that was a wonderful investment. It was very well constructed and kept me warm in cold and windy conditions of NYC. Unfortunately, it was 'lost' to an ex-girlfriend. The craftsmanship prompted me to by this wool car coat, which is very consistent with the high quality of the Navy peacoat. It is beautifully lined, comfortable, and I feel good wearing it. I have only worn it a handful of times, but have already received several compliments on it. If I had to find something about the coat that I would change it would be the zipper. I found that the zipper is a bit small, making it difficult to zipper and its not as fluid as I would have liked. Otherwise a great product.

Great Coat
After ordering and trying on coats from L.L.Bean, J. Crew, and Land's End, I finally found this car coat. The wool is heavy and will keep you warm. The styling is simple, classy and yet casual. The high, double collar keeps my neck nice and toasty. I've only had it for a few days now, but I get a lot of looks from inquiring eyes on the street.

I got a large. I normally wear a 42L, and it fits great. It's not as boxy as most other wool coats. I only wish the sleeves were an inch longer (I have long arms). Definitely get this coat (but not if you live in DC, I want to be the only one with it).

Wool Car Coat
I had been looking at this coat for a while but hesitated in buying it online due to fit, but went ahead and bought it online after trying in vain to find in a NYC store to try it on. It arrived quickly and fit accurately. It looks great and I am very happy with it. It is well designed and well constructed. I noticed the lining and the double interior pockets as being well thought out. The collar is great, too, in that it has the structure to stand up and keep your neck warm. I like knowing that it was made in North America. Great coat, glad I bought it.

This is the jacket
I don't normally feel the compulsion to post lengthy feedback on any product I order over the internet, but this time was an exception. Best company I've ever bought from. Great customer service and fast shipping, but most of all they make a damn fine product. I'm not big into style but this jacket made me feel like one of those GQ dudes in the magazines. I got more compliments on it after the second day than I even cared to hear. I'm 6'0" 155 lbs, athletic build, and the medium was a perfect fit. This jacket looks good, feels good, and it has class. I was hesitant at first to spend so much money, but you get what you pay for (at least in this case). You won't regret buying this, unless you hate being complimented on awesome style and handsome looks. P.S. Schott- great job, don't change a thing
