Hi Gail,

I have got since years a (beautifull) flight jacket IS 674 MS in size 44, with EMAR zipper, white label inside left pocket says 1484 129 474 44. How can I read manufacturing year on it ? How can I know the type of leather it is made of ?

Best regards

Based on the numbers you provided the 1484 is the lot number, 129 bundle #, the 474 should be the style number and the 44 the size. We used an Emar zipper in the earlys 1980's and the style 474 was produced from 1983-1985. The style 474 was made in a Finished Split leather, it was not a top grain leather but a split cowhide that they finished to a smooth finish. This leather was used to offer a better price point for the jacket style compared to the steerhide jackets which were more expensive. After all these years the jacket looks very good so even though it is not a steerhide leather it has held up very well. The finish split was as heavy and thick as the steehide so it was a very durable and strong leather. Gail
