Help with determining if a belt can be replaced
Watch this Post
Hello, I am considering buying a used jacket that is missing a belt. I was hoping that you could help me determine the model number and approximate age in order to determine if the belt can be replaced. Thanks so much, I have included pictures that hopefully will help. Thanks, Jeff

Based on the photos you sent I cannot tell you very much about the jacket. It is our classic motorcycle jacket. The label appears to have a mptorcycle rider which means the jacket was made after the mid-1980's. I am unable to tell what type of leather by a photo to determine the style number. In the coin pocket there is a white ticket which may have information in regards to bar code and style number depending on the age of the jacket. We can make a new belt for the jacket but we cannot guarantee how well the leather will match with the jacket, as the belt will be new and the jacket has wear and tear. The cost would be $75.00 plus $10.00 return shipping cost. We do not accept repairs outside the continental US. Gail

Thanks Gail for your prompt response, I can see why your company is known for having amazing customer service. I have contacted the seller to see if he can tell me if there is a ticket inside of the coin pocket or not. I am not sure if any of the other pictures on the listing might provide additional insight, but I am including a link just in case. http://www.ebay.com/itm/231092975691?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 Regarding the belt/repair, is it as simple as you mailing me a belt and then putting the belt through the loops, or would I need to ship the jacket to you for a formal repair? And if it is something that would require you having the jacket, where are repairs made? I only ask because I am in New Jersey and was wondering if I might be able to drop off/pick up the item instead of shipping it. Of course, this is all contingent on whether or not I decide to purchase this particular jacket or not. Either way, I definitely plan on purchasing a Schott leather jacket at some point and this information would be good to know for future reference. Thanks, Jeff

You would need to send the jacket into us as the belt has to be sewn into the side seams. On the classic motorcycle jackets they are half belts. We do not accept repairs being dropped off, ypu would need to send the jacket into us. Jerri in customer service handles all repairs, you would contact her for shipping instructions and payment. I have listed her email address below for you. I am sorry but the link would did not work to view the jacket.  Since you are in NJ look for our email to you in reference to our 1-day factory sale on 12/7/13. Gail

OK, thanks for trying....after thinking about it, I'm probably going to pass on the jacket without the belt. I am looking into another and thanks to you, I knew to ask the seller if there was a tag in the coin pocket. Here is what he wrote: "there is a tag in the coin pocket. Here is what is stamped on it: 1772410001 Lot 50 BNDL 012 and another number 118", could you tell me how old this coat is. Here is a pic, I was hoping you could help me with determining how old the coat is. Thanks, Jeff

Jeff, The style is the naked cowhide leather style 118 size 50. We started using bar codes on the pocket tickets in 1993 and the 5th. digit represents the year. The digit is a 4 which could be 1994 or 2004, to confirm a year I would need to know what name is on the front zipper pull and sleeve zippers, also if ther is any markings or name on the buckle and a photo of the leather care label in the jacket.  Not sure but looking at the photo it appears the chain pull on the top pocket is missing, also cannot see the other bottom pocket. You cannot  just attach the pull you would need to replace the pocket zipper which we charge $45.00 for each pocket zipper plus return shipping. Be sure all zippers are in working condition and have pulls attached including the sleeve zippers. Gail

Thanks for the head's up, the more I think about it, the more I want to buy new.  Do you have any information regarding when/where the annual factory sale will be?

Great, I'll definitely try to make it on the 7th. Who knew you were in Union? I grew up in West Orange, a stone's throw away. Thanks again for everything! Jeff
