age and type leather
Watch this Post
I really enjoy my Schotts Pea Coat. It has peaked my interest about it's age and type of leather used. I am not the first owner, even though it is not fully broken-in. The collar label says "US740N PEA JACKET" and the pocket label says "B01705029 Lot 40 BNDL 006". Gail, is it possible for you to tell me about the jacket's origins? Thank you.

Unfortunately I cannot provide much information on the leather peacoat style140.  Our bar codes do not start with an alphbetical letter such as "B " that you have listed, and our bar codes have 10 digits not 9 as you listed. Jackets with bar codes were produced after 1992. The 5 th. digit represents the year a "0" would represent the year 2000 or 2010. In regards to the US740N label we have used this label in our peacoats since the 1970's. Gail

I found my magnifying glass (usually for threading needles and reading obits) and guess the first digit to be an 8 and not a B. It is entirely possible there was another digit before the 8 because the tag appears to be torn at a slight angle and not perpendicular to the base of the tag. But, thank you, all the same, for your efforts.
